Authentic Knitting Board KB Baby Knit Looms, 3/8" Gauge

I bought this pair to round out my set of KB 3/8" round looms (80, 72, 64 peg) which brings the full five loom set to about $40. I'll probably make much more use of this 56 peg (baby hats and panels) than I will of the 24 peg but I can see the 24 peg being useful to me for 3/8' gauge swatches. The 24 peg loom makes a panel about the same size as a KK 12 peg loom all other things being equal.I truly-truly love that they've embossed the gauge and peg count on the underside. Great idea! This needs to be on all looms. It is truly great that more looms outside of the 5/8" and 3/4" gauges are coming to mass market and KB seems to be leading the way.Pros:* small gauge (3/8") for DK (3) and Worsted (4) yarns makes a very nice knit without the bulk of thicker yarns.* peg design knits over very easily. Much better than some other's crochet hook type pegs.* the plastic is thin enough to be light in the hands but thick enough to be sturdy.* considerably less expensive than custom loomsCons:* new loomers might find the 3/8" spacing much harder to work than 5/8" or 3/4" looms. This is probably not a good starter/learner size.* smaller gauge means more pegs to work for the same sized project as a larger gauge. More pegs is more time to completion.* the plastic is light. A very tight loom knitter might risk breaking pegs.Tips:* u-wrap and true-knit stitches are easier than e-wrap on a small gauge if you have thick fingers. Using a wrapping aid such as a straw can make e-wrap much more comfortable.* DK and light Worsted (3 and 4) yarns work beautifully. Bulky and thicker yarn will be a challenge. Thinner yarns like sock weight produce a bit of a netting-like stitch.

Knitting Board just keeps making fantastic products and doesn't sacrifice durability, with consistent color in the plastic, these two looms are in cute colors too. For an added touch I noticed the Peg and Gauge numbers on the bottom of the looms, I find that to be really helpful.These will work with Bulky yarns like 4 or higher, double or single strand. The 24 Peg Loom is so CUTE! And I do think the 56 peg would be a perfect size for a small baby sweater and maybe knit the arms with the 24 peg in E-Wrap.I think these are also great sizes for knitting stuffed animals.Anyway, happy holidays and happy knitting!Update: After knitting with these looms, I got interesting results. First project I did was knitting leg warmers in E Wrap with Simply Soft yarn 4 using the 56 Peg Loom, but the result was too much material for a tight fit- it would've been good for the body of a new born baby sweater or a bigger sized hat for a toddler. My recent project with the 56 Peg I experimented with a normal Stockinette Stitch, same Simply Soft Yarn, fairly snug tension in the work, I made a average sized Adult Sock/Slipper, my feet are 7 and a half and it fits nicely I think it could totally fit bigger feet than mine.The 24 Peg makes really little socks in Stockinette, small enough for new born feet. The 56 in Stockinette would also make a very small new born hat.I think this loom set is really fantastic and is at the right size to make plenty of small projects. In my opinion also can double as a Sock/Slipper sized loom.

This has been a great set to add to my collection. I have a few projects I'm making for my first grandbaby! So far I've really enjoyed using them.

Just what I expected

Have been loom knitting since the 70s, when Whiting, Singer, Weaver and others, often had circle looms in their boxes of needle crafts for kids. Received a book from the late 1800s and another from the early 1900s, about rake and loom knitting used as rehab/therapy by war veterans and state inmates, back in the 1990s, which restarted my love affair with this quick and easy craft.These 3/8" gauge looms use a single strand of thinner yarn, vs the more typical wider-gauge looms for beginners, like Knifty Knitter or In the Attic brand, Boye, etc looms. With those wider gauge looms, you use two strands of a thin yarn or one strand of a chunky yarn. That makes your work go faster and stitches/length of the object being made, form faster. These smaller gauge looms produce finer, more delicate stitches that take a bit more time to complete.The looms create beautiful, even stitches. The pegs have a small groove and small knob at the end, to help you use the loom tool and to keep the stitches formed as you work them. I added a soft, silicone, pencil gripper handle to my loom hook, to make it a bit easier to hold and work with. I can also use other loom hooks I already have. The hook is perfectly fine, just my personal preference.A bit of a learning curve when both the pegs and yarn are thinner/smaller than you're used to; to wind the yarn and loop it on the smaller pegs, plus remove loops and stitches, you may need to slow down and take your time. Don't go as fast as you're used to with larger gauge looms. And wind loosely, at first. Smaller peg size and less space between pegs means as you pull down on the knitting, to keep the stitches consistent in gauge/shape, the loops on the pegs can tighten up considerably.Good looms, at a good price for the set. So many patterns out there to choose from, too. If you like fast crafts or maybe want to produce a lot of hats or socks for charity/gift giving, these looms are the way to go. Enjoy!

This was a gift for my 10 year old when she became frustrated with trying to crochet. This gave her the opportunity to still learn a new skill/hobby, while being able to handmake something. Very easy to use and lots of tutorials out there for different craft ideas.
