Hardwired Transformer for Ring Wired Video Doorbells

My existing 40 year old low-power transformer couldn’t handle my Blink video doorbell, so I needed a reliable replacement that was UL Listed. This Ring Transformer was priced right, worked perfectly and provided the needed power without any issues.Right out of the box, I could tell it was well-built and hefty, giving a sense of durability. It’s also branded with the Ring logo, which reassures me of its quality. But most importantly, it is UL-listed, meaning it has passed strict safety tests, giving me peace of mind that it’s a safe and dependable choice.Installation was straightforward, and it’s been running flawlessly ever since. All of my motion events are recording and push notifications are coming in now. If you need a solid transformer for your video doorbell or similar low-voltage devices, this is a great option. Highly recommended!

Reliably performs to specifications. I used this to upgrade my existing transformer so the existing doorbell chime would work with my Ring wired doorbell/camera.The threaded nipple makes it easier to install than the type with a little bracket that you tighten down. Minimal room is needed to install this on the side of a service panel, which is what I did. The wires are a substantial gauge, with good insulation.

It worked great, the normal 10v won’t work on older homes. The new one is 16v

I will give an update on this product, after a few weeks have passed. I installed it same day it arrived. It was actually easier to install then I thought it would be. The original transformer was put in my condo in the 80’s when it was built. It was rated at 10V, 5VA. I had the “level 3” output and “poor” transformer with a reading of 10V. My mechanical door bell chime was not working since the ring was draining all the juice. Apparently there was not enough voltage to power the mechanical bell with the ring installed. When I upgraded to this transformer recommended by ring…. Let me just say a night and day difference. My mechanical bell now works and there is no delay, the notifications I get them instantly! I have all the features as well; such as night vision color, the led light on the ring doorbell button is now on. (before it would never turn on even during night time) The speaker and mic sound louder and clear. The video quality is also better. After I installed the transformer, I waited about half a day then rebooted my doorbell through the app. (even though I did not need too, I immediately received 16V rating but I wanted to be sure, just incase) So far its perfect. I will update this review as time goes by. Also, just a tip. Make sure you continue to check that you have the latest ring door bell app update. I noticed that ring updates their app like every other day and also ensure your ring doorbell has the latest update. The transformer does run “hot” but its not really that much of a difference. I can still touch it with my fingers but its a higher output in voltage so it’s expected, yet nothing to worry about.Update 4 months later: transformer still going strong and working as expected! But now my mechanical door chime has a slight buzz I heard it’s common if you put a high output transformer. I know it’s my mechanical doorbell because if I shut the breaker off for the doorbell the buzzing stops. It doesn’t bother me and it’s not loud but I can hear it when I walk by the mechanical doorbell chime when there is no noise in my place. Not sure what’s causing it or how to fix it as I have the ring power pro connected to it as well.

My home was built in 1970 and I am fairly sure the transformer was the original one. While it served the doorbell for the house for 50 years, it was just not beefy enough to deal with the additional power requirements of an always on doorbell camera system like the new Ring doorbell I bought, so I went with Ring suggestion and bought their own brand of transformer.Install was pretty smooth...was able to screw onto flat baseplate with the plastic nut on the back and it was off to the races! No wiring changes needed (other than replacing the chime and installing doorbell).Seems to be working just fine, powering the chime and the new Ring doorbell. Not sure it will last 50 years, but hopefully I can get 10.

First one came and I installed it and got nothing, had I known a little more I would have tested its output from the go, it literally put out nothing even though it was getting a little warm. Replacement came and it works perfectly … I think I just got unlucky.So moral of the story , it’s a good product but bring a multimeter and test it when you hook it up so you don’t have to climb up and down attic stairs a bunch of times 😁
