A comprehensive, illustrated guide to turning gorgeous wooden boxes in various styles, from simple to complex. Teacher and professional woodturner Bill Bowers leads this detailed step-by-step workshop for constructing the classic cylinder box, cylinder box variants with embellishments, the classic capsule box, and capsule box variants with chatter tool work. Each step is clearly described and illustrated, from mounting the blank on the lathe to finishing. The book includes: Projects for a classic Raffan box, pagoda box, clam shell box, gourd box, and small hollow-form boxes with bottle-top and finial-top lids Over 300 color photos to guide you on your way A photo gallery of new turned box styles for added inspiration Whether you’re a complete newcomer to turning or want to brush up on your skills (and add a few more), this guide is a must-have resource to add to your bookshelf. Review: Excellent condition - Delivered well ahead of schedule and in excellent condition. A wealth of knowledge and information with clear and easy to follow guidance. Any woodturner wishing to further their woodturning hobby or craft repertoire will benefit from this collection of well thought out and delivered content. Review: Good book - for intermediate to advanced woodturners - Good book and well worth the cost. Nice photos provide good inspiration for turning projects. Like some others have noted, the language can be a bit lofty and some of the measurements a bit over-precise but if you look past that and get into the meat of the project then you should have some really good outcomes. I would recommend other books to the beginning turner prior to getting this book since it makes some assumptions on the readers skill level that may not be there yet. As a woodturner for several years, I drew inspiration and ideas from this book that I had not previously considered so in that regard it was well worth the money.

Great book for a beginner or experienced wood turner.
I've been turning pens for a couple of years and I'm now starting to get into turning other items. This book has been a big help. It shows in detail how to make several different styles of wood boxes that you can turn on a wood lathe. It shows the different techniques needed and the different tools that you need and how to use them. It's one of the better books on wood turning that I've got and I would recommend it for any one that wants to get into turning boxes. Even if you already turn boxes this book might help you better your methods. But I definitely recommend it for any beginner that wants to get into box turning.

Boxes are not too difficult for you!
I have really enjoyed doing some of these projects already. The illustrations are excellent, the text is plain and the ideas are for anyone who is past being a beginner. Some of the techniques take some experience, but nothing is too difficult and the results are very nice. The ideas are small and can be enlarged, or changed with experience. I am glad this is in my library and will use it many times as I progress through the different type of boxes and into some different ones I can already imagine creating.

inspiratonal but not very informative
this book is inspirational in that it has some awsome galleries and demonstrates a good variety of boxes. However, the projects demonstrated in this book "which is the majority of the book" often lack sufficient detail in the steps and after reading through all of them there are still some grey areas of technique and tools. maybe these are covered in another book, i dont know. i would say this book is a decent buy if you are experianced and looking for inspiration but for a begginer who has never turned a box i would say that one of the genaric introductory turning books would be a better buy as most of them have a basic box in the projects section.

Inspiring
My husband has just treated himself to a mini wood lathe. I wanted to treat him to a good book that would inspire him and encourage him. I sat read the reviews here and glad I did. This book is beautiful. It has clear, colour pictures showing the stages for each project. Even I started to believe I could turn these boxes having read this!!! Seriously, it's a great book and worth buying

Ottimo libretto come tutta la collana "a Schiffer Book for Wood Turners". Non deve mancare sullo scaffale del Tornitore.
