Author Encourages Reader Contact But Can't Be Reached by Email or His Web Page
This is an interesting and well-written book that contains useful information. At this time I can rate it only at 3 stars and am unable to recommend buying a copy. In fact, don’t buy a copy. Why? I went to the author’s Web site after reading the book. To my surprise I was redirected to Amazon’s page for the first edition of this work. From that page I found the linked Amazon author’s page. I posed a question in the discussion part of the page – no answer. When a web page has an address that uses the title and yet redirects to an Amazon page I begin to wonder.I later contacted the publisher (Krause Publications) asking how to contact the author. I received a reply from F+W, the owner of Krause that said someone would get back to me. I’ve not heard more.I checked the ownership of the author’s web page and found that a person at a marketing company in Utah owns the page. When I contrast all this to the author’s statements in his second edition to the effect that he wants to maintain contact with readers there seems to be contradiction. I’m left wondering whether the book was ghostwritten by someone who researched the subject of picking and then crafted a book that claims first-hand experience. So, if you choose to buy the book realize that no author is available to answer questions or back up statements. What is even more disconcerting is that the company that owns Krause, the publisher, is F+W. F+W is a big company that controls an important part of the US publishing industry. Why is that company allowing such sloppy handling of this particular book? Why hasn’t someone from F+W gotten back to me (as promised) with info on how to contact the author Joe Willard?I dislike making comments that may be taken as sounding critical. In this instance it seems reasonable to share what has happened so far with interested persons in the Amazon community who are looking at this otherwise credible book.
