So far so good

It's early days for me. I've only run about 1 case of nails (7,000 nails) through it, but it's awesome so far. I love it.The gun did jam one time, and when it did, it was a real doosey to get it un-jammed. But, I'm pretty sure I know *why* it jammed. My guys aren't real careful with the nail spools before putting them in the gun, sometimes storing them in their pockets, and I'm willing to bet the little copper wires holding the nails together were a bit bent, causing two of the nails to be too close to one another, and at the wrong angle to one another. The gun managed to get two nails at once into the firing chute, and really blasted them into one another. I had to knock the breach (the magazine -- also how you load this gun) with a hammer to get it open. But, the safety mechanism worked perfectly, and once it jammed, it wouldn't fire again until I got it cleared out. Once I managed to get the breach open, I just pried out the old nails with a screwdriver, pushed the piston back up, and there was no sign of any damage on the hardened steel mechanism. It worked flawlessly after that.I'm not super thrilled with the "black" trigger design (as opposed to the "gray" trigger). It DOES work the way a roofing nailer is supposed to work (depress the trigger first, then fire on bump), but sometimes I try to use the gun in a more precise way (like when I'm installing drip-edge), and position the nail accurately by depressing the safety first, THEN pulling the trigger. Good luck with that! Very often I end up double, or even triple firing. The trigger is just not made to be multipurpose. It's made for bump fire, not single fire. It'd be nice if it did both -- but that would probably be a way more complex (and expensive) design!I would buy this gun again if I needed another roofing nailer. In fact, I did! Now I've got two of them, and they both work great.

Worked as expected.

It only misfired with defective nails. It will double (recoil) fire if i get tired and dont use enough downward force or i nail into something hard. I put oil in it every time i reloaded the nails. The nailing position height adjustment setting (not the nail depth) is easy to bump and change to a smaller setting. This will to nailing into the wrong place. i had to pay attention to this. It did jam and was firing blanks (no nails) for about 5 times before i caught it. I installed 1000 SQ feet of shingles in about 4 hours. The nailer gets heaver as i got more tired .

The only roofing nailer to own...

This is coming from a serious do-it-yourselfer with loads of experience. I had 2 roofs to do for a friend... 4 squares and 16 squares. Read the reviews from the various roofing nailers and settled on the Bostitch for this reason: The jobs in front of me had new plywood and ancient hardened yellow pine boards. The key is to have the nail on the shingle , not in it and not above it. When nailing in various densities of decking, some of the nailers (according to reviews)were having a difficult time leaving a lot of nails proud (needing to be hammered in by hand). I didn't need that aggravation so I opted for the Bostitch. (My friend bought it, I selected it!) Opened it up, brand spanking new, dropped a little oil into the air fitting as directed, and started nailing! Talk about smooth! Had to only adjust the depth setting once to account for the decking material and as I nailed from new plywood to old decking, the gun just kept perfect depth! Not sure why! In 20 squares of shingles, I had 1 minor jam that I believe occurred near the end of a coil of nails with the wire carrier on the nails. Know this though... I had to re-coil some of the coils as I wasn't exactly real careful and dropped the coil bending up the carrier strip. In spite of how some of the coils looked when I loaded them, the gun just kept racking off the nails! I couldn't believe how fast this thing will shoot nails! As fast as you can move it across the shingles! I said all that to say this... Buy this one and you will not be disappointed! I will be purchasing one for myself as well as I have my own roofs to do now! And by the way... Amazon came thru as always! Next day shipping on Amazon Prime! Do not know how they do that! Kudos Amazon!!!

Total Lemon Out of the Box! UPDATE: Two lemons!!!

UPDATE ON SECOND UNIT: 1 Dec 2017So, after returning the first unit I decided to order another one since the reviews appear to be mostly positive and the fact that the price dropped $15 since the first one I purchased (first one was $185, this one was $170). The first unit was sold/delivered on behalf of Amazon from a company called "Coastal Tool". This second one was sold/delivered from a company called "OnTime Supply" and had an extra bright red UPC sticker on the box plus an already opened plastic bag that contains the manual. This is the tell-tale sign of a refurbished unit re-sold as a new one (there was no "R" in front of the model number), but I thought maybe if its refurbished it has been tested and should work. Anyhow, this one performed slightly better. It would only 'double' about every fifth nail and the nail head seemed slightly less chowdered than before. However, every time this one doubled, it created a jam that required a pliers to remove the nail. I'm out...goodbye BOSTICH!!!!!!If anybody reads these things, can you please suggest a decent nail gun for me to try next?Purchased on 11 Nov 2017, this unit has two major problems with it: 1. It will 'double' fire two nails at the same time about half the time. 2. It leaves a nasty rough sharp dent on the head of the nail. I have tried a variety of depth and air pressure settings and the problem is consistent regardless. I will call Bostich for advice, but it is looking highly likely that this will go back. I was worried that I would get one of these. I read many of the reviews and these units either work great or are a total lemon out of the box...I got the latter. If there is any quick fix or remediation from Bostich, I will update this review.
