All the latest research on fluency plus dozens of practical lessons and ready-to-use fluency-priming tools, including partner poems, word ladders, and more! Fluency expert Timothy V. Rasinski teams up with Melissa Cheesman Smith, a veteran fifth grade teacher, to help teachers effectively weave fluency work into their daily reading instruction. The book is packed with engaging text and tools, an assessment scale, and high quality ready-to-use lessons including text phrasing and tonality, echo reading, word ladders, and more! Given the importance of fluencyโ and its pivotal relationship to comprehension and word recognitionโthe potential is high for improving students' overall reading achievement, and their performance in other content areas. Review: Actionable Lesson Plans! - Teaching fluency can feel like a nebulous task. So often, the advice is just repeated readings (especially timed readings). I've felt that there must be more we can do. This book offers so many more strategies than repeated readings (though it does cover new and creative ways to do that), and I can instantly see how the activities in this book will improve fluency. The book is full of ready-to-go, photocopy-and-distribute-this-page resources, as well as ways you can use the strategies and activates with the texts you're already reading in class. I'm really excited to start using these activities with my students. Review: Helpful Classroom Resource - I ordered this book as a resource for teachers at my school. This book has a wealth of information on Fluency and itโs importance in reading. This book is a great resource for strategies and lessons for teachers to use in their classroom. The lessons are easy to follow and all materials (songs, poems, etc) are included. Lessons are appropriate for K-8 instruction and are labeled according to grade level and the area of fluency that is the focus.

Good resources for teaching fluency
I teach Key Stage 2. There's an increased focus on fluency at the moment (see the latest Reading Framework and Ofsted subject review!) and this book has ideal texts and strategies. It is quite American, so I'd say if you teach in a British school, choose your extracts carefully and type them out to ensure they have the correct spellings.
