This kindlebook that is 101 Things I Learned In Advertising School by Tracy Arrington Matthew Frederick contains some ideas to help me understand how I might have allowed myself to be indirectly andor directly influenced by certain advertising (i.e. why I am sometimes influenced to order something from an ad I see at a restaurant for instance). This kindlebook also helps me to at least partly understand how others are can be moved to respond in a certain way both offline andor offline. For instance, a kindlebook such as this helps me understand as a fan of Amazon why an article that I had seen online before about an Amazon headquarters opening in Virginia would have slightly different responses from a writer andor commenters viewing the article compared to a writer creating an article on similar news in a local newspaper. There are obviously multiple more examples, I am just listing one of the first examples I can easily think of. Some of the discussions given: Dove’s Real Beauty Campaign, research to discover, a quote from Maya Angelou, why what you can do next can matter more than what you’ve done, and more. I purchased this kindlebook on January 17, 2018.

I'm officially "gaga" for this book.

There is something to be said for an author that avoids the trappings of disguising a self indulgent memoir inside what the reader hopes to be a helpful resource for understanding the complexity of a subject.The first thing that struck me was the Authors Note: an honest recounting of how she found success in an industry that may not have been what many would have expected. Missing was the claim of being "born into advertising" and in its place was an honest admission of initially being outside of her comfort zone: something that I could quickly identify with.From start to finish, I found myself wanting to turn the page for the next "lesson", while at the same time flipping back a page/lesson or two to reabsorb a previous nugget of wisdom. Along with industry specific notes on subjects such as Reactance and the Charm of Pricing, the author weaves lessons on why we consume, how we consume and how society is influenced by all messaging.I am not an advertising industry professional: frankly, I've only recently not considered advertising as "smoke and mirrors". I am a small business owner and this gem of a book did more for defining WHY my customers choose my business than I could ever have done.Kudos!Read it.

Amazing information, easy to understand.

This is a fantastic book. Written in a way that is fun and easy to understand. I learned a lot and recommend it to anyone looking get an edge. I’m in the industry and was searching for something to help me learn more.. this is it!

Loved this book and will be ordering more copies!

I loved this book! I work in advertising and I learned a lot from the book, yet it was also accessible enough so that anyone could could enjoy it. I plan to order copies for my parents so they can finally understand my job! It is a nicely sized book and each lesson stands alone - I walked around with it in my purse for a week or so and would pick it up whenever I had a free moment. The lessons were insightful, thought-provoking, and hilarious - would recommend this book to anyone!

A must-read for anyone who wants to grow his or her business through advertising. Or the person whose company is ready to engage an ad agency. And it's perfect for any student who is contemplating a career in marketing, advertising or public relations.Arrington is a terrific writer. She has a gift for explaining complicated principles with compelling examples that create lots of "aha" moments for the reader

Another great installment in the "101 Things I Learned" series. I've enjoyed every book in this series so far (I still have a couple more to read). Next for me is "101 Things I learned in Urban Design School".

Great ad reminders, facts, case study summaries, and tips

I have all of these little books in the series except the Urban Land Dev one. This one is probably the best. Some of the ideas are really interesting. I’ve been in marketing for a decade and haven’t heard of a few of these. It’s something I’ll put in my waiting room or coffee table.

Wunderbar, leicht, Inspirierend

Als Freund schöner Bücher ist für mich, nebst Inhalt, auch wichtig, dass ich das Buch gerne in die Hand nehme. Daher erfreue ich mich auch, wie hier, an bereits gelesenen Exemplaren oder Bibliotheksausgaben. Keine Scheu, dass Buch "zu fordern" und ins alltägliche Leben mit einzubeziehen.Das Buch stach mir eher von seiner gestalterischen Aufmachung ins Auge. Ich besitze bereits ein Buch dieser Reihe, wer sie kennt weiß was er bekommt. Jedes "Thing I Learned" wird auf einer Doppelseite ausgeführt. Eine Seite für eine kleine ergänzende Illustration, ein kurzer Paragraph auf der anderen Seite erläutert den Sachverhalt. Das Buch "zu lesen" würde vermutlich keine halbe Stunde dauern. Daher liegt das Buch, aufgeklappt auf meinem Schreibtisch. Ich suche mir einen Paragraph, der mir wichtig genug erscheint häufiger darüber nachzudenken. So verweilt das Buch dann bis ich mir den Paragraph lange genug vor Augen geführt habe, dann wird ein weiterer gewählt. Schon fast wie ein Tischkalender ;)Zum Inhalt finden sich hier sicherlich noch mehr wunderbare Rezensionen. Ich stecke noch mitten im Buch empfehle der gerne sein bestehendes Wissen prüft und auch an Grundlagen der Materie interessiert ist (Einsteiger!). Zumindest wäre das mein momentanes Fazit.Über meinen Account werden Liebhaber schöner Bücher definitiv fündig!
