Great Paired with Spicy 🌶️ Chili

I needed to order cornbread since I had forgotten it with my regular delivery, and saw this on the options. I had never heard of it, and Old El Paso is a brand I’ve trusted for years. It arrived very quickly, and since I was craving something super spicy on a cold rainy day, I made a chili loaded with peppers and hot spices. To pair with it, I had chosen this style of cornbread, and was incredibly pleased. The cornbread holds together well, and tastes amazing. I expected a weird spicy flavor, but it was actually smooth and a blend of both cornbread tastes, with a slight bite. Even better, the price is totally worth it for what you get. It’s also really easy to make, and doesn’t take very long at all!

This is candy, with a little chili powder

It is ridiculously sweet. Not like a sweet cornbread sweet but like a sickly sweet, frosted grocery store sheet cake that you can't even finish a slice of to be polite. This is inedible. It's really too bad because if you removed all that sugar, it probably wouldn't be too bad (but, honestly, if you took out the sugar, there probably wouldn't be anything left, it's that bad). To me, "Southwest Style" cornbread is never a sugarbomb, that's another style of cornbread, so this feels very misleading.Very disappointed.

A little kick

This cornbread is quick and easy to make. It has a nice little bit of spice to it, and tastes great. Makes enough for a small group of people, with some to spare!

Sweet and spicy

The Old El Paso brand name drew me in and I can see that this product will appeal to some people. Maybe I am not one of them. This mix goes together easily; it bakes to a nice golden brown, and for people who like all their baked goods to be "moist," it is very moist. (I do not like that; to me it chews as if it is gummy.) If you like sweet cornbread (almost like cake) and Old El Paso's seasoning blend, you will love this. Sugar is the first ingredient in the list. And that is one of the reasons why I will probably not repurchase. For me it is just too sweet, and I am not a fan of sweetness mixed with taco seasoning. However, I can see where some people are going to love this, and I can even see where I might use it as a topping dolloped onto a baked casserole type Tex-Mex breakfast dish, made into pancakes; or mixed with a less-sweet cornbread mix and baked to make a less-sweet, mildly spiced larger cornbread. The heat level in this is very mild.

Very good bread

This bread was delicious. Ease of preparing. Was moist.

Too sweet for my tastes

The mix came together easily and baked up well. It has a mildly spicy flavor similar to ancho chilis. However it is sweet and soft more like a cornmeal cake instead of cornbread. Sugar is the first ingredient in the mix before even cornmeal. I could top this with a glaze and serve it as a somewhat unusual tea loaf but it was too sweet to serve as an accompaniment to a meal.

Worth Trying

This was good cornbread with a bit different flavor I enjoyed and so did the family. I will buy again.
