Dad bod approved but watch those “inside pockets”
Solid Tactical Jacket - Mostly Awesome, Minor Quirks Writing under wife’s account so if it sounds like she suddenly got into tactical gear, nope, I am her husband. I picked up this tactical jacket in XL (I’m 6’ tall, 200 lbs, rocking the classic manly dad bod) and it fits just right, not too snug, not too baggy. The material is surprisingly soft for something that looks like it could survive a zombie apocalypse. Comfortable enough to wear all day, whether I’m out skiing or just knocking around Denver. Pockets Galore: and I mean everywhere. Front, sides, sleeves, even the back. My wife especially loves the rear pockets, perfect for warming her hands when we’re out walking. It’s like a built-in hand-holding system. Now, a few quirks: Patches: Not sure what the deal is here. I’ve never seen anyone actually use these patch spots in real life. Feels a bit cosplay-ish unless you’re in a tactical unit or a paintball league. Inside “Pockets”: I say “pockets” loosely. Dropped my charger in one and it went straight through like a trapdoor. Landed on my foot. Ouch. Why not just sew the bottom shut? Feels like a missed stitch. Armpit Zips: Ventilation is cool, but a little mesh wouldn’t hurt. That said, my wife likes sticking her hands in there too, so maybe they’re multi-purpose. Bottom line: For the price, it’s a solid buy. Looks sharp, feels great, and it’s versatile enough for winter sports or weekend errands. Just don’t trust those inside pockets with anything that you actually want to keep.

Definitely worth it, hopefully my forever jacket.
So, proof to this review. I just bought it last week and put it to the test this past Saturday. My stepson had a TYFA championship playoff game this past Saturday here in Texas. It was 56° and a steady heavy drizzle or light rain. I was part of the chain gang holding the down marker so I could it use an umbrella. This jacket held up to its descriptions. It eventually got soaked, but I literally stayed dry and warm. I ordered a large. I am 5'7" and at about 198lbs. A bit over weight, and it's a but loose on me. But it's definitely comfortable. I love the pit zips because as I started to sweat, I was able to unzip my pits just a bit for better ventilation and no more sweating and I was still warm. The hood is great in both ways. I love the extended bill, it kept the rain off my face and glasses. And when thrown back, it sits flat, not all puffed out like most jackets. No, here are my downsides. It has plenty of pockets, I wish it had at least one internal pocket. But my phone and smokes stayed dry in the rib pockets 100%. Second downside. Since my jacket is a bit too big for me, the bicep pockets are a bit difficult to zip back up. I have to hold the cuff with my fingers to keep it tight and pull the zipper up. But that's not a defect in the product, just an issue with the size I ordered, so keep that on mind. 3rd issue, there were no instructions on how to roll the hood up and stow away. I had to watch the video for the product a view times to see how they are folding it. But once folded, it's a nice tick fleece lined collar. All in all great product, there is a video on YouTube where a guy has owned his for years and loves it. I definitely recommend. I'm going to order another one, but without the hook and loop patches for my wife. She loves mine as well.

Great look and quality
True to size. Ordered a 3XL to fit my broad shoulders and 52 " chest. It fit perfectly with just enough room to layer clothing. Quality and comfort is awesome along with its hood and military look and feel. Highly recommend it.

Fantastic Jacket! Above and beyond it's product description!
I'm 6'2" tall with broad shoulders and narrow hips, so finding a jacket that fits me well has always been a challenge. This free soldier jacket is the exception! A wonderfully comfortable fit with a sharp appearance. There are multiple pockets with zippers, plenty of room to store whatever you need to carry with you. The jacket is warm and flexible having underarm zippered vents for cooling if necessary. I really like the length of this jacket it's just slightly below waistline which is perfect for me. I would normally wear a large size in jackets but with this particular one following the size chart I ordered medium and it's perfect! I highly recommend this jacket!

Beyond my expectations!!!!!
Ive bought lots of coats over the years. Coats like under Armour, North Face, Columbia. As these are all great coats they are very expensive and realy dont offer a whole lot besides a name brand. I took a chance on this coat to save a little. Man am I glad I did, its very stylish, super warm, and fits great! I would order one size up from your normal size and it will be a perfect fit! Take a chance on this coat it does not disappoint!

A really great value for the price
I want to explain why this jacket is a great value, if you know what you are looking for. I noticed the other day that you can buy a Carhartt soft shell jacket at the big box store for $99, but it has a quarter of the features of this jacket. First of all, it's a tactical jacket, so that explains most of the unusual features that people have complained about in other reviews -- these things are features, not bugs. The hand pockets are high because tactical people of wear waist belts; the velcro patches on the shoulders serve a specific purpose; there are no interior pockets because you don't want to have to open your jacket to get something, that's why there are pockets on the sleeves and in the back; there is a two-way zipper that opens at the bottom because the jacket is long and goes below the waist, so if you sit, you want to open the bottom without opening the whole jacket. (Someone complained that the bottom of the zipper opened when they sat down -- that's exactly what it's designed to do, so that you don't rip the jacket or break the zipper, this is a feature, not a bug.) They have addressed the question about the side of the zipper pull (it's on the right hand now), and addressed complaints about the quality of the velcro on the sleeves (it's really, really strong now). People complained about how waterproof the jacket is. They give you the actual rating of the fabric for water resistance and breathability (with slightly different ratings for different colors, last time I checked), you just need to know what you are getting into here. They can use the word 'waterproof' because it exceeds a certain threshold, but it will not be as waterproof as your childhood rubber rainjacket, waterproofing is a matter of degree. There is a tradeoff between waterproof and breathable -- if it's totally waterproof, it's probably not very breathable (like a plastic poncho, for example). They chose a tradeoff point, and it might work for you, depending on your purposes. If you walk in light rain for 20 minutes, you can shake off this jacket and it will come dry and you will be dry. If you stand in a steady downpour for an hour, this jacket will eventually become saturated and heavy with water, because of the fleece side; it is not as waterproof as your North Face Gore-tex rain shell jacket. So if you know you will be exposed to extended rainfall like that, you need a better shell. I'm a 6' 2" tall man, 195 lbs, with a long waist; size L fits me perfectly. My bottom line here is that this is a LOT Of jacket for the price. I'm very pleased with this purchase. (I was not compensated at all for this review, I just want to provide good information and respond to some of the other reviews, which seem to misunderstand the kind of jacket this is designed to be.) Happy shopping!
