Some of the Talmud

I give this book a 5 star because I learned in the process even if I was disappointed. It is good to read this book, because it gives you and example of the Talmud. But I was disappointed because after looking at it, I realized, that much is missing. So, I asked a Jewish friend and he said, "The Talmud has more than one version and has numerous volumes. Since it only has 270 pages it is not up to a one volume. So this is an Abridged version." He asked me, "Does is fall under Talmud yerushalmi or Talmud Bavli? "I could not answer him because in the Book there is no introduction, no index so I don't know. I looked at a Jewish web site and it said, "When people speak of “the Talmud ,” they are usually referring to the Talmud Bavli (Babylonian Talmud), composed in Babylonia (modern-day Iraq). However, there is also another version of the Talmud, the Talmud Yerushalmi (Jerusalem Talmud), compiled in what is now northern Israel. The Yerushalmi, also called the Palestinian Talmud or the Talmud Eretz Yisrael (Talmud of the Land of Israel), is shorter than the Bavli, and has traditionally been considered the less authoritative of the two Talmuds."It seems like to me, this book is to gives you a sample of the Talmud, but it is not the full course meal. If you want an example of Talmud teaching, it would seem like this is a good place to start. But I will have to search another place to find what I was looking for.It seems like to me this book would fall under a college course where you are giving an example of this type of teaching, but there is more, if you want to dig more. But this is in English, so that does help alot if you don't read Hebrew.

This certainly appears to be a fabrication

The first thing that caught my attention was that it was speaking in the Elizabethan English equal to the King James Bible. That has no place in a book as a Talmud. A translation of the Bible is simply a translation. And only one translation really speaks in those terms, the King James. On further reading I noticed Lines taken directly from Shakespeare's Henry V. and Lines taken from "Cervantes" Don Quixote. I will finish reading this simply for my amusement. But I agree this is not a book that should be purchased.

Not the Talmud

This isn't even close as to what the Talmud is. The Talmud is suppose to be a more indepth version of the Torah, with lots of commentary. This is a ripoff, do not buy.
