How do you make it stay on? It just cycles through the colors and turns off.

Good Morning! It sounds like you simply have it in demo mode still. Simply hold down the power button for a full 10-12 seconds to remove this mode and operate it as normally. -BioLite

How long does lantern hold a full charge when not in use?

Hey P! Typically it will lose 25% of it's charge every 6 months, so we would recommend charging to full and doing a maintenance charging every 4-6 months. -BioLite

will it turn on automatically, I'm thinking of using as a night light?

The SunLight can only be turned on by pressing the power button. There is no auto-on, timer, or light detection function.

What is battery life on red only ?

We used ours as a night light on a cruise. We were usually asleep by midnight and up around 7. Was always dead when we got up. So less than 7 hours. However was a perfect light to see by in the dark without disturbing anyone's sleep.
