Customized for large monitor and big printer

This is a decent piece of furniture. I took off a star because I had to make changes to make it meet my needs. I looked for a computer armoire that would fit a large iMac monitor and couldn't find one. So I customized this one to fit my equipment. I'm sure the manufacturer wouldn't approve, but it turned out very nice.Printer stand customization: The printer upright (j) sticks up too far to allow placement of a wide printer. So I cut down the upright (J) to make it shorter by cutting 3 3/4" off the bottom. I had to re-drill the two holes that were at the unfinished bottom of the piece I cut off. I used a 1/8" drill bit and drilled 1 3/4" from the finished side and 3 1/4" from the unfinished side. After customization, I still had to place a piece of wood under the printer so it could clear the printer upright, because even on the highest pegs, it didn't clear that annoying upright.Monitor customization: My monitor was 2" too tall for the monitor space, so I had to move the desk top (F) and keyboard drawer down. Because of this, the upright (C) for the small storage shelves (Q) was no longer long enough to reach from the top shelf to the desktop, so I did not use parts C and Q. (Actually, I cut the upright (C) and used it to raise the printer.) There are two large holes for the desktop/aka lower shelf (F) and two smaller holes for the keyboard drawer slide that needed to be moved down 2". I used a 3/16" drill bit for the smaller holes and a 3/8" bit for the larger holes. I put tape on my bits at the desired depth to keep from drilling through the side of the cabinet, and drilled a small starter hole to help guide the 3/8" bit. I lowered both of these pieces 2". When I nailed the back (H) on, I had to lower that shelf's nail holes by 2". Also, I had to move the strike plate (NN) down 2" on the cabinet doors, using a 5/64" bit. Despite being lowered, I think the keyboard is at a good height for typing.I'll try to upload the parts diagram to make this description clearer. Hope this helps someone else who can't find the perfect computer armoire.

I had a fairly good experience with purchasing and assembling the armoire

I had a fairly good experience with purchasing and assembling the armoire. It comes in two separate boxes, box arrived at my home on the same day. I was not present when it was delivered and had to have a neighbor assist me with moving the boxes inside when I did arrive home. Assembling takes time, a lot of time. I did the vast majority of it by myself and it took a total of 4.5 hours to assemble. The instructions are VERY detailed--which was appreciated. The instructions can look a bit overwhelming at first, because there is SO much, but just take your time. Lay out all the parts, read the book one step at a time, and remember to breathe! The only parts I recommend you don't do alone are flipping/lifting the armoire and attaching the doors. I've seen some reviews state the doors to their armoire are misaligned. The doors on my armoire aligned just fine and open and close perfectly, but I also had a second person assist with attaching them. The only down side to this armoire is how easily scratched the finish is. I was very careful and only scratched it in two places (once on the inside and once in the top, left corner). If you have the means, I would also make sure you securely attach it to a wall.I did a lot of research on computer armoires before settling on this particular one, and I'm not at all disappointed. It's a great space-saver as I live in a 400 sq. ft. home, and I expect it to last a few years at least.

The good and the not-so-good

My five star review is based on the following:1. It looks way better than most similarly priced furniture pieces.2. Lots of features - slide-out computer stand, double pull-out laptop tray; small shelves inside.3. Low price4. On-time deliverySome possible issues you should be aware of if you're considering making this purchase:1. I paid around $99 for delivery, which is quite a lot, BUT it still made the overall price reasonable for me.2. It came in two large and heavy boxes which were left in my driveway. I couldn't lift them by myself, so be prepared for that.3. Assembly IS required. It's not difficult, but it did take my non-handyman husband a couple of evenings to work on alone. If you're comfortable with this type of assembly or if you have bigger blocks of time, this shouldn't be an issue.4. The doors are a bit tricky to get aligned so that they open and close properly.5. This is NOT "fine furniture" and you shouldn't expect an heirloom piece when you buy it. I expect this to last several years, but I'm not planning on passing it down through the generations. I'm fine with this, because I'm not expecting that in this price range.Overall, I really like it. It's small enough to fit almost anywhere, but big enough to have plenty of storage. It looks good, and being able to close the doors to hide the contents makes it more versatile.Right now I'm using it as a mini office for when I need to work from home, but I could also see using it as a crafting station, a kid's homework area, or just a general area for home office supplies and computer, especially if you don't have an office or free room in your house to designate to that.
