Once Upon A Time In The West [Blu-ray] [1968] [Region Free]

Nothing more needs to be said about the film - it's a classic of cinema pure and simple.This review is more about the 4K aspects. Paramount has had mixed success with their 4K releases it has to be said, from the distinctly average "keep your blu ray version you'll thank me" release of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" to the stellar "Star Trek The Motion Picture".I am pleased to say that OUATITW falls into the stellar category! The Dolby Vision has really brought out vivid colours and rich detail - the opening sequence at the train station is a standout with it's intense close up's. Some shots look like they were filmed yesterday and don't get me started on how more chilling Henry Fonda's blue eyes look in this format!I had the previously released anniversary blu ray and that was an ok job transfer wise but the 4K upgrade is far superior.I'm off to play my harmonica. Enjoy the film!MC

is a 1968 epic spaghetti Western film directed by Sergio Leone, who co-wrote it with Sergio Donati based on a story by Dario Argento, Bernardo Bertolucci and Leone. It stars Henry Fonda, cast against type as the villain, Charles Bronson as his nemesis, Jason Robards as a bandit and Claudia Cardinale as a newly widowed homesteader. The widescreen cinematography was by Tonino Delli Colli and the acclaimed film score was by Ennio Morricone.After directing The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Leone decided to retire from Westerns and aimed to produce his film based on the novel The Hoods, which eventually became Once Upon a Time in America. However, Leone accepted Paramount Pictures' offer to provide Henry Fonda and a budget to produce another Western. He recruited Bertolucci and Argento to devise the film's plot in 1966, researching other Western films. After Clint Eastwood turned down an offer to play the movie's protagonist, Bronson was offered the role. During production, Leone recruited Donati to rewrite the script due to concerns over time limitations.The original version by the director was 165 minutes when it was first released on December 21, 1968. This version was shown in European cinemas and was a box-office success. For the US release on May 28, 1969, Once Upon a Time in the West was edited down to 140 minutes by Paramount and was a financial flop.Another master Western from Leone and Morricone.

Whilst not my favourite film, I never got to see it in all it’s glory at the cinemax.This blu ray includes a wide screen film AND a representation of the three camera extra wide that, at certain cinemas one could see in full 180 degrees.Generally, the acting is good, unsurprising when you see the cast list, but it is a little odd when George Peppard tries playing an 18 year old with a younger than him, Caroll Baler, playing his Mum….hmmmmOverall I quite enjoyed it but it will be a while before I watch it again

enjoed it a lot. We watched it twice to really get the plot. Music is brilliant

Like most i suspect i was eagerly awaiting a 4K release of this western masterpiece and one of the all time greats. at that. I really don't know how to say it but sadly it's not the best 4K transfer that i have seen. I found the whole experience of watching it very dark looking in terms of picture Quality. The Blu-ray release outshines this release by far in my humble opinion I fear i will continue to watch the Blu-ray on any future screenings to come. Admit it's not really all that bad but when you have seen the Blu-ray release for so long and you now come to this pristine 4K release it just disappoints. The sound as you would expect is first rate however all the special features are located over on the accompanying Blu-ray disc just leaving you with a bare bones 4K disc of the film. I'm still giving it five stars for the packaging the art cards and reproduction posters that you receive with this special edition release which are impressive. My parcel arrived by just being thumped through the letterbox not even bothering to knock that set alarm bells ringing for me thankfully this time it arrived undamaged. Back to the 4K Cheyenne and harmonica have not been given their due for me personally anyway it's a tough call and one we will all need to make our own minds up on when viewing this release.

Fantastic film stunning in 4k and the music and sound excellent experienc loved the original but 4k resolution is even better 5 hours is long but well worth the effort and the sound of the train coming from the sound bar in 5.1 is epic you can feel that you are right there one of my favourite western films it's a shame that the good the bad and the ugly is only us import and won't work on my DVD player but to say this was excellent
