Did this turn my 100-year-old “oil painting done by a talented family member but no DaVinci” painting into a brilliant, like new painting that would match a professional restorer’s work? No. But, did it easily and safely clean off all those decades of soot and grime and make the painting look a WHOLE lot better than it did? YES. I chuckled at some of the results - our painting (which I have looked at now for almost 70 years) has a river running through the middle of it. But, who knew there was a little “waterfall” area in the river before we cleaned it??? So, if you’re expecting your oil painting to look like it was professionally cleaned as it might if you spent big bucks to get it done, you will be disappointed. But, for the price, this stuff is great.

I had bought this starving artist oil painting from about 1980's, I'm guestimating. Left side is the before and right side after. It's not a drastic change, but it did pull a little dirt and brightened the picture up. I used microfiber towels to apply the product and followed up with turpentine when I was done. I just bought the turpentine from the hardware store and once applied, dried off with a microfiber towel. First time I ever did this and I found it to be a simple process. I agree with other comments, if you have a piece of valuable art, take it to a professional. This is great for using on your thrifts or flea market finds.

I used this to clean two old paintings I had (circa 1920). It does a decently good job of taking off layers of dust and grime with little effort. Be careful not to rub too hard or you may take off a bit of the paint. That being said, this isn't a miracle worker. It won't help for paintings that have yellowed varnish. This cleaner has a very strong smell so be sure to have proper ventilation when using it.

A great product! I bought this painting at an estate sale and didn't notice the smoke damage til outside. The second picture, with very visible horizontal brown lines, is when I first brought the painting home- no cleaning yet. The third picture is after several rounds of wiping it down with cotton cloths, warm water, and a drop of Dawn dish soap. The lines are much better, but still visible. I researched products that could help and found this painting cleaner and also bought the distilled turpentine to use after, as recommended by other users. I shook the painting cleaner periodically and used on cotton pads and wiped the painting down. I couldn't find clear instructions on how to use but this worked well and let me apply little bits at a time to ensure it wasn't damaging. I could see the brown patches disappearing immediately after wiping different pieces of the painting. The first pic is immediately after using the picture cleaner. After I let this dry for a bit, I applied the distilled turpentine with cotton cloths to remove any cleaner residue and I think this helped remove any chalkiness. The last pic is a close up of cleaner used on Right side and no cleaner on the Left side of photo. The color of the blue changed so much! The painting looks like it's in a different season from when we began. Highly recommend and will keep both products on hand in my vintage restoring tools!To note: no instructions on bottle and a very strong scent (like a pine sol) to the cleaner. Smell lingers for several hours.

Used on a few oil paintings. Removed very little dirt and the smell will linger for days, if done in a small room.

This product cleaned up a flea market find beautifully! Easy to use, and a little bit goes a long way. There is odor but who cares! These photos show before, mid-clean and after. It’s much brighter and more colorful than expected! Caution though- the instructions say to remove product residue with turpentine so make sure you have some on hand!

I have several older oil paintings, and getting them cleaned professionally is pricey. I applied this with a cotton makeup pad on one of them, starting slowly in an inconspicuous corner. It didn't damage the painting, and the results were good. I used about half a bottle for the 2' x 3' painting and will try it—always carefully at first!—on others.

When I finally did start to use it, I don't think it worked. The cloth was still the same color, but the painting clearly had smoke residue on it.
