Helmet Adapter for Take A Look Bike Helmet Rear View Mirror

Provides a solid base for the mirror

I bought it again after the first one snapped in half, but I regret both purchases for the amount of fussing I ended up investing. It snapped in half because the instructions tell you and show you to bend it (even shows you how it bends dramatically). Adhesion does NOT stick, have to add cost of better mounting adhesive, or using zip ties. Additional tape will not help, certainly not duct tape. Just get some plastic or other material and cut out your own adapter; try an old CD, cassette case, or thick credit card maybe. It's basically an extension to drop the mirror down a bit lower - in my case it helped cuz the top rim of my glasses reflected right in the middle viewing area of the mirror (distracting, divided viewing area). I don't want to see the frame of my glasses in the mirror reflecting back at me, the mirror is too tiny, I just want the mirror to reflect what's behind me.I was going to return the snapped/broken one but in reading their return instructions I would be charged for the return shipping even tho Amazon gives you a postage paid label. Once they get your return they deduct the shipping cost before refunding your money. Now you can see how that's not worth the bother. However, there is an option for them to replace the adapter, apparently for free. Had I realized that I would have done that instead of buying another one.The mirror and/or adapter do not fit a lot of helmets, I got it to fit my Giro with visor model by using this adapter. The mirror has lots of angle options to finagle adjustments, I basically ended up removing the mirror itself from its "stem" and flipping it around - this way I can have the whole contraption on the left side of my helmet without over complicating all the angles so much. After spending way more hours than I ever EVER would want to, it works and I don't want to ride without it. I did purchase both sizes of the mirror, and ended up using the shorter version since my present helmet has a visor (mostly for style). Now to be extremely careful with my helmet when it's not on my head - mirror-contraption sticks out like a long fragile twig waiting to be smashed or tangled-up. Now that I have it on there nice and stable I'm afraid to slide it off. Good luck.

I've used this mirror for a couple of years now. Recently lost my mirror while stopped for lunch. I felt blind the rest of the ride. These fit easily on my regular glasses or my cycling glasses with the adjustable clip. The rimless mirror works great too. It's not distracting when riding but readily available when needed. A must have for me.

I purchased this item to allow me to move my Take A Look mirror off my glasses to a more secure mounting point on my helmet. I absolutely love the Take A Look mirror but I have very thin wire frame glasses that just did not provide a secure mount for the mirror. As others have pointed out this is just a simple piece of translucent plastic with two tabs that are supposed to attach to the foam on the inside of your helmet with included adhesive pads. The problem for me with this approach is that I could feel the plastic piece against the side of my forehead and due to the curve of the helmet foam the adhesive would tend to pull away from the foam on one of the tabs. I fixed this by carefully drilling out two very very thin slots in the foam just thick enough to allow a tight fit for the tabs with the adhesive pads removed. Once I was satisfied with the dry fit I removed the tabs from the slots and covered them with some 5 minute epoxy and pushed them back into the slots. The tabs are so thin that once they are epoxied back in the slots the integrity of the foam liner should not be compromised. A very small amount of foam is being removed here and the void in the foam is being filled by the mirror mount. Now my mirror mount is rock solid and sets about 1/4 inch out from the inside edge of the foam. This provides me a very stable rear view even over bumps. I just leave the mirror attached to the mount all the time, but it would be easy to remove and reattach over and over if you are so inclined. Once the mirror is removed you would barely notice the small portion of the plastic mount protuding below the surface of the helmet.

The Take A Look helmet adapter was not a good fit for my Giro Foray helmet.Instead of using the adapter I used a zip tie to affix the mirror to the outside of the helmet, running the tie through one of the side vents and then across the middle black hinge on the mirror (see pic). The zip tie square end sits inside the side vent.Even if using the adapter I would recommend attaching the mirror temporarily with tape or zip ties to ensure it’s in the right position as the adapter only has one set of 3M sticky pads.Use caution when tightening the zip tie, as the helmet styrofoam is very soft and easily deformed, and the outer hard shell on most bike helmets is thin.

This isn’t what I expected it to be. Instead of sending it back, I did try to use it. It worked for 2 or 3 weeks, then broke in half. I work in a machining/ fabrication shop, and made something that worked better with my helmet out of a piece of scrap aluminum sheet metal. I love their mirrors, but this item is a total waste of money.

I had tried a few mirrors before I stumbled onto the T-A-L, now many years ago. Excellent optics and secure mounting to the helmet. In the early days I let the mount extend below the helmet as pictured but now I trim a bit off of the top of the mount and line the bottom of the mount up with the bottom of the helmet. This keeps the mirror out of the way of over-priced sunglasses that seem to get wider and wider. Once I make sure the adhesive is where it needs to be to attach securely and still leave a place for the mirror pegs, I attach the mount and leave it clamped in place overnight. Then I take an eighth inch drill and remove just a bit of helmet foam so the mirror pegs aren't constantly trying to push the mount away from the helmet. I'm a long time user and huge fan of these mirrors. I might not be the coolest gut in the pack but I'm the first one to know when car has us in its sights.
