Very useful

I went to the South of France. This guide was very helpful. Specifically of the places to visit and walk tours.

Classic Rick Steves

I always rely on Rick for his advice and places to visit and stay. He has such a knack for pointing out sights that many people overlook or just don’t see. This book on Provence is no exception.

Rick is always helpful

Went to a restaurant from the book in Arles and it was excellent- they told me Rick has just been there himself a few months ago

Wish I was in South of France right now…

Great book that we took on our recent trip Provence. It was spot on recommending restaurants and sites to visit!

How can you go wrong?

This book is meant for travel which has not yet been taken, but it seems most comprehensive and will no doubt be a valued asset. I mean, it is by Rick Steeves!

EXCELLENT resource!

I received the Rick Steves “Provence & The French Riviera” book only today, and I am already beyond thrilled with my purchase! My Husband and I are headed to France this year for the first time, and this book is making me incredibly excited for our adventure! I will most certainly be using this as a key resource. Thank you!

Meh. Ok at times, disappointing at others.

Besides the problem that as soon as Rick Steves names something, it becomes over-run with tourists, the book had some pros and cons. It helped with a few tips about where to park, though the descriptions often did not carry over to Google Maps names, and it took a while to figure out where it was directing us. And I think you need to take the "Three triangles, must see" with a filter to what *you* want to see, because it is very much on the "if you have never seen a European castle before" sort of rating scale. An example of a big complaint was the books treatment of the Van Gogh easels in Arles. They are sort of a big deal there...the town is very "into" their association w/ Van Gogh and there are "easels" set up here and there, showing where he painted a scene from, the painting, and you can see the scene as it is now. The book references them, and even puts them on the map...but gave us NO clue about what they looked like, where they were, etc. We would spend time wandering around "the spot" looking for them and, of course, the map is crude for location. Several times we eventually found them, and in one case we never found it!Another small complaint: The index is not at the back. Well, it is *near* the back, but what the heck is their thinking, that you should need to go looking for the index?Overall, I would say "Meh" for the book; for the price, I expect better. I could have bought Fodor's and Frommer's for the price of this one.

Unfortunately a bit of a dated visual style

This guide is packed full of information - probably too much to easily find the gems you are looking for - maybe it's trying too hard to do justice to an area with just too much stuff to look at! I'm old - my eyes aren't as good as they used to be - and grey on grey maps at a very small scale are almost uninteligible - I need to take a picture on my phone just to read them (I read Kindle books on my phone- so I'm not that bad!!). The maps need colour - they are just bad design I'm afraid - the size and lack of clarity is going to be a pain for even normal humans..That's all a pity as all the information I'm looking for is there. The walking tours of key areas would be great - if I could read the map in reasonable light!I completely get that trying to keep this book down to a size you can throw in your day pack is important - but for me the compromise makes this a lot less useful than I'd hoped.
