HiMedia GRM1009-500G Ammonium Carbonate, A.R., 500 g

I use these to make smelling salts, it is the same as the $15 smelling salts on Amazon in the 2oz bottles but it’s a pound of ammonium carbonate so really you can make quite a few 2oz bottles for a few bucks more, definitely worth the money. Also if your making smelling salts I use a 2oz bottle with a right twist top, I filled up half way with ammonium carbonate then throw in a cotton ball that’s soaked with ammonium hydroxide (10% ace hardware brand or a 29% reagent ammonium hydroxide ) and about a capful of ammonium hydroxide also, close and let fumes build up. Lasts long and very strong this way!

I ordered for making ammonia cookies but am thinking I might have ordered the wrong thing. It was here on time and is as advertised. I can make smelling salts if I can't make cookies.

This bottle does NOT contain ammonium carbonate (NH4)2CO3. Instead, this bottle contains NH4HCO3NH2COONH4 which is Ammonium Carbonate Carbamate. They are similar but not the same.While they can probably be used interchangeably as smelling salt (both decomposes into ammonia) and in cooking (if purity of this bottle is food grade), they can’t replace each other for science projects as they have different chemical formula.

Lumps interfered with usage. Had to sift and then crush lumps before using.
