These are great cast iron pots!
These are great cast iron pots. The lid serves as a frying pan and the unit together a great pot! I have one, with a storage bag, and my son has seven of these. It is the only one he will use. The cast iron is thick! I would guess just under 1/2 inch thick. The lid and the bottom both have post legs. Worth considering purchase!

Camp Chef 9 1/3 quart Dutch Oven
It arrived in the retail box undamaged. No metallurgy flaws. Nice and hefty solid with three feet high enough for coals. The well fitted lid does not rock or appear warped in any way it just sits there nice and tight. The three legs on the lid for frying when you flip it over are well designed. . Nicely and seriously seasoned cast iron. Bargain price paid mid $30's. Big enough for a big roast and potatoes with that great long wave penetrating radiant heat that comes from heavy cast iron - it's gonna be good! I am coupling this with the Lodge 60inch cast iron tripod. Don't walk off and leave it out at a campground - someone might walk of with it. A handsomely made product, was just admiring as it sat on the kitchen counter while drinking a beer. This is your dutch oven campfire mother ship.

Perfect campfire meals every time.
This pan is heavy! We always take it camping and it is very handy for meals in our big group of 8-16 people. It came already seasoned so we could use it right away, and it has gotten better with each meal. Food never sticks badly. When some does, we use a nylon scraper to get it. I don't usually wash this too thoroughly, because I don't think you're supposed to get all the oils out...works best when there is a layer of dark oils. If it looks dirty, I soak it with plain water and use the lodge cast iron scrub brush. Then rinse with really hot water, spray with pam, and set upside down over my gas grill on high for 10-15 minutes. Do the same cleaning with the lid if needed. Cooking: We cook eggs and meat in the lid over the grill or over the fire on a grate for breakfast...works great! We hang the covered oven from our tripod and cook just above the coals. Amazing even cooking without burning food--ever! I just pour in some olive oil and add almost any food. Our favorite is sliced potatoes with left over brats and hamburgers sliced up into chunks. Add a chopped onion and your favorite seasonings...yum! We always cook too many brats and hamburgers at lunch so we can make this for supper. Once we are done with lunch, we start this and let it hang above the fire all day. 3-5 hours, then raise it up out of heat or set it on the far edge until ready for supper. Food stays hot and flavors are amazing! Cook corn on the cob in husks over the fire to go with it!

Great Dutch Oven
I recently purchased this item and was torn between this dutch oven and the similar Lodge model. I have several other Lodge cast iron products and have had great success. However, based on price, reviews and the fact it comes with the lid lifter I decided to go with the Camp Chef. I am very satisfied with the quality outside of one oddity. The handle on the lid is not a uniform thickness for some reason as you can see in one of my pics. After receiving the dutch oven I did a thorough cleaning with a brush, no soap, and proceeded to add an additional seasoning layer on top of the factory seasoning. I applied a light coat of canola oil and placed in my BBQ upside down for an hour at 400 degrees. A few hours later I decided to test it out by cooking a chili using only charcoal and it performed great. Some of the chili did stick to the bottom but I had some difficulty controlling the temperature and at one point my chili was boiling instead of simmering. The stuck on food came off easily with a brush and I thoroughly cleaned and applied a light coat of oil to store for the next use. All-in-all this is a great dutch oven and I highly recommend it. I did not have any of the rough surface imperfections that some have posted here and I am satisfied with the overall quality of the item I received. I can't wait to use it again.

"Pre-Seasoned" is Not "Seasoned"
This dutch oven is extremely useful and versatile. It includes the pot, lid, lid lifting tool, and instruction booklet. Both the pot and lid have 3 legs so they can be used together as a dutch oven, separately as a pot and griddle/frypan, or combined with other dutch ovens as a stackable unit. All of the items are sturdy and well-made. Since it's pre-seasoned, it will work right out of the box for cooking items with high fat content that are not likely to stick. If you intend more traditional dutch oven camping uses (dump cakes, meals, etc.) you will want to apply a few more layers of seasoning to enhance the anti-sticking properties and make the finish smoother. Properly maintained, these seasoning layers will naturally build up over time, but I recommend jump-starting the process early on.

Nice piece of cookware!
I have really just started using this for outdoor cooking but it is pretty cool. It is VERY heavy, which is mostly good and it looks like it will last forever. However, it is pretty heavy to carry around. The design on the lid is nice and sets it apart from other cookware. I haven't used the lid as a frying pan yet but it is nice that you can do that. If you want a thermometer to use in the channel the Weber 9815 Replacement Thermometer, also sold on Amazon, works perfectly. My main complaint, and reason for knocking off a star, is that it doesn't hang straight when using the handle to carry or support it. So far I have used it to cook over a wood campfire by using a tripod. If the pot is filled with liquid and you pick it up by the handle, everything spills. I bent the handle using pliers and it hangs much straighter now. I can hang it now but still not carry it. Overall, I think it is a great piece of outdoor cooking equipment.

Cast iron is the best! Inside of lid is actually flat!
Anyone who has cooked with cast iron knows that it's the best! I was in the market for a cast iron dutch oven to use while camping. A key feature, in my opinion, that this unit has that I have not found in many others is a flat surface on the inside of the lid. I wanted to be able to flip the lid over onto coals and be capable of cooking pancakes without the batter running toward the center of a concave lid. I've used this dutch oven to cook a cobbler dessert at altitudes from ~1000 ft to ~8600 ft above sea level and 40 degrees to 90 degrees using the same configuration of coals and achieve very similar results. This is the perfect size dutch oven if you're looking to cook single pot dishes for a family of 4-5. Be sure to follow typical cast iron cleaning methods.

Versatile value!
I was looking for an oven with legs and found this one with bottom legs and on the lid as well. It works perfectly for stacking my other oven on top when I need two ovens. The lid legs also allow the lid to serve as a skillet. The seasoning is very durable. I wanted to use flax oil to season so I tried to burn off the factory seasoning. I won't try that again! I should have used it as is! This oven has a thermometer port which is a huge advantage. On Amazon, I found a 4 channel electronic thermometer so I put one probe into the meat, one into the oven space. This allowed me to keep the lid on until I knew my chicken was perfect (fall off the bone and moist ). I also procured a 10" stainless steel pizza plate to put under the oven to keep my coals right where they should be. I added a wire rack inside to keep the bird off the bottom. The gravy was delicious! The included lid lifter fits inside so I wrap all these accessories in a clean, dry hand towel (protects the finish) along with a pair of leather gloves. I plan to add another of these so I can triple stack them.

UPDATED: Lid/skillet cracked - Great customer support
I purchased a 12" oven and sadly the unit I received had a faulty lid which cracked while being used as intended. I contacted Camp Chef customer support directly and I have to give them credit, they were exceptional. Not only did they send me a replacement without any issues, but I was able to keep my original oven which is still partially functional, even with the damaged lid, just not as a skillet. Not only that but they sent me a 14" as a replacement! A very nice upgrade for my camp kit that I was not expecting. Now I can stack the 12" on top of the 14" comfortably! Thanks Camp Chef! The product works great, I have made countless meals in it over the past month or so while working in a bush camp. It cooked a 10x5" roast perfectly, I was even able to do 5 layer fully loaded nachos! in fact everything I have tried to cook in it has been a dream - there's no limitations to camp fire cooking with this Camp dutch oven!

Great dutch oven, absolutely no complaints!
This dutch oven is amazing, great price and great quality., I've cooked with it multiple times and it has performed flawlessly. I was strictly looking for a lodge, but decided to give the camp chef a try and glad I did. I see no reason to pay the extra money since this oven does everything i want and more. I added a few extra layers of seasoning right off the bat, not because I had to but because i do that for all of my cast iron pans etc.

Simple item done well for good value
A Dutch oven is a simple thing. This one has good cast iron walls, the rim around the lid is perfect for holding coals for campfire cooking and the included lid lifting handle both works and means I didn't have to spend extra to buy one ,making this a great value. Well pleased!
