I wanted him to learn about what not only he would be going through at this age of transition but also what the girls in his class would be going through (change wise/hormones) so that he can be sensitive to their changes as well as his own. I purchased this one for boys and I purchased the exact same book for Teen girls. They took it on a very PG level. nothing too straight forward or raunchy. Very tasteful explanation of becoming a teen. Review: Perfect for boy starting middle school - I got this book for my 11 year old after scanning through intro pages of 10+ similar books. This books covers almost all the senstive topics that a 11 year old is shy of talking to his parents about. This book is a perfect resource to provide answers for my child without going into too much details and illustrations that may be in-appropriate at this age. This book filled all of my requirements, plus more. Book is written in a relaxed style and still provides explanations using correct terminology. The explanations on hygiene and friendship are great starting points. Most importantly, it has the perfect transition from boys health to sex education. I highly recommend this book for boys ages 11-13.

Very informative, good tool along with parental input.
This book is highly informative, but I will give it to my sons along with some further guidance. A very specific book about physical changes as well as sexual encounters and masturbation. The discussion about masturbation tries to counter any old scare tactics that masturbation will have negative physical repercussions. Okay, I'm listening. However, I feel the authors set the bar rather low by saying that you can practically never masturbate too much - the one caveat being if you find that you don't have time for doing things with friends and going out like you used to. Well, medically this might be good advice, but I think if the only things on your calendar are going out with friends and masturbating, you might want to look at your priorities. So, when my kids, who are not quite at puberty, are ready for this book, we'll be there as parents to discuss with them our own experiences with and thoughts around healthy sexuality and the pros/cons of masturbation. For now, we have given them "The Boy's Body Book" which is geared for a little bit younger crowd, and helps answer a lot of the questions they have about what changes will happen to them during puberty.

Great Book!
I purchased this book for my twin 10-year-old son's (who will be starting 5th grade in August) to read. They had started to ask me questions about different things they had heard at school from their friends, etc., and I decided to look for books they could read that would give them some correct, age appropriate information. This book is a great. It describes a variety of physical changes to boy's bodies, the importance of personal hygiene, as well as how a boys voice will begin to change and why. It discusses changes in boys' feelings, hormones (and describes what they are), and it also touches a little bit on girls/dating at the end. It is not graphic, does not discuss sex; it is age appropriate and well written. It is also a great "conversation starter" for Mom's like me who have no brothers and did not grow up around boys!

Great resource for "what to expect"!
Exactly what I wanted! I wanted a book to help answer basic questions about puberty and budding sexuality for my almost 12 year old. To the point and easy to understand. Has illustrations and I love the use of proper terms and definitions. Addresses personal questions and is an easy to read format.

Great pre-teen early teen book for boys
I bought this for my 13 year old son. He has had many talks before getting this book about his body, girls, etc. This book filled in the holes of things we missed and allowed him to explore the information (given in text book format) and ask questions. He read it in one night. There is a section on masturbation and it does mention it as something that can be done with your body. It also mentions that ones religious beliefs may effect how one feels about masturbating and to talk to your parents about what would be best for your beliefs. I thought this was a great way to segway into an older child's autonomy. Pictures throughout the book are appropriate for the age. I'm very conservative in my beliefs and what I expose my children to. This book was a perfect segway into the teen years.

My sons new fav book.
This book has become my sons new favorite book. He's read it all the way through at least 4 times. This book offers a wide variety of subjects, not just puberty. Its helped him understand that he can talk to us about changes he's experiencing without shame or embarrassment. Plus its written in an easy, light hearted and sometimes even funny way that he seems to really enjoy. I read it before giving it to him and there is nothing in it I found inappropriate to give to a child of his age (10). There are even sections on bullying, peer pressure, and drugs and alcohol. If you're looking for a basic all inclusive book, this is the one. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone wanting to open up communication lines between themselves and their pre-teen.

I got this for my son's 10th birthday. He was addicted to it and read it throughly in a few days. He told me he can understand most of it. 80 percent in his own words. There are some abstract words he does need help. He goes to a French school. He is in Grade 5. I would say if it is for a boy going to an English school, it probably pretty easy to understand. He was eager to read the book from cover to cover. I would say it is an engaging book. I would like someone to recommend me some more books like this to me. We need more books in this content to prepare my boy for teenager years.
