UCO Original Candle Lanter Kit

Normally it works very well and is quite windproof.If the candle doesn't seal well when it is new, it can run down inside and make a mess, and use up a lot of your candle very quickly see 2 of the photos).It isn't too hard to clean when that happens, just a bit of a hassle and waste of wax. I have only ever had it happen with a brand new candle. It doesn't do it on every new candle, and I have never had a problem on the second or later lightings, as by then a good seal has been formed.It is not rainproof you need to buy or improve a rain cover out of aluminum flashing or foil.The reflector is kind of useful but kind of a pain to store and transport. I do worry that the candle may melt if my gear is stored in a vehicle in the summer, but I don't usually leave my gear in a vehicle for very long, so I haven't had it happen yet.LEDs are probably lighter and cheaper, longer lasting, maybe even more reliable, but there is something nice about the ambiance of a real flame that LEDs just can't match.

Packs down small, loaded and ready to go, mine turned up in perfect condition.The included carry case is very useful, even advised to protect it from knocks, bumps etc. in transit.I kind of wish this was colour-coded to whichever lantern you have, but it is what it is.The red colour is quite striking and looks good, nice nostalgic feel to it when compared against the 'military-grade' green, unless you're into that sort of thing. I'd rather not loose this outdoors.I'm not quite sure why other reviewers seem to have trouble with the parabolic reflector, it simply hooks onto the top, in wherever location you would like. Simplicity itself, it doesn't even get that warm.My only niggle is that the spare candle must have got a bit warm somewhere, as it has a flat side. I'm not sure how well that's going to load into the lantern yet, but based on other reviews, probably not good.Perhaps if UCO devised some kind of thin cardboard tube to wrap these spare candles in, that wouldn't be an issue, sadly it looses a star for this. Otherwise, pretty happy with it.
