MANBUG

The knife is very sharp and convenient. It is small enough to keep on a keychain and has been used for opening packages, cutting tags off items, scraping sticky items, and other general requirements. It is expensive but the quality is good. The knife is easy to open and lock/unlock. While it is small, it is easy to grasp and the hole in the blade adds an extra leverage point. Very happy with the knife and would buy it again.

I’ve been a semi knife enthusiast for many years and have tried and collected Gerber (German and USA, and Japanese) Case, Buck, Victronox Wenger, Kershaw etc. But I have never tried a Spyderco, well until my tiny Gerber USA folder vanished.I’m in awe of the blade sharpness out of the box, and though so tiny I could not get this knife to flex or bend or break the lock in anyway. And I’m a strong individual by freak genetics, I love the pattern on the glass filled handle and even with my huge hands I can open it with one hand.It’s the size of a gentleman’s Swiss Army knife but with a much thicker and capably blade. Honestly I’m blown away buy the fit and finish even though it’s not cheap it’s built world class and can definitely do heavier tasks a bigger knife can.Now I want to get a bigger Spyderco for heavier work and whittleing. Colour me impressed! If you want the best and toughest and most capable ‘tiny’ knife look no further. And the Japanese make one hell of a blade, I have Shen kitchen knives that are 12 years old and have never been sharpened and are as sharp as they were from day one.I also have the 25 year old Japanese ‘silver knight’ pictured that you could still shave with. My all time leader though is my serrated a Wenger 8 inch kitchen utility knife that is 30 years old and is used everyday and is still sharp!Let me say also that the person who said the handle flexes and looks like a 1.99 handle- well you got a fake I’m sorry. What impresses me about this knife is how tough this little buggger is, and I can’t move or bend the handle one micron under my considerable strength. It seems even stronger than bone or steel, definitely a high grade handle material in harmony with the other excellent materials.Probably to late now, but if you can flex that handle a micron it’s not genuine.

This little knife works great for all activities you would expect from a pocket size knife. As mentioned, it unboxed with a razor sharp blade and still shows signature hole deployment look by Spyderco. VG10 type steel - keeps edge but soft enough to be sharpened easily. Having considered predecessor version of Ladybug decided to go with Manbug for a few reasons:-it uses torx adjustable screws as I would like to be able to clean and tighten the handle if needed-slightly thicker handle & blade-better thumb grip (jimping)One of its cons is the price but then again it is backed by a recognized company - your call on the value here. Also, it is just a bit big/wide for a 'keychain' knife but it is doable. Attach it with an Nite Ize SBHLF-2PK-01 S-Biner, Black, 2-Pack since you can separate it from the rest of the keys for easier use as compared to a keychain ring. I would rather not have it on my keys due to bulk but it is so light that I am worried about it falling out without me noticing. It has a lanyard hole that is big enough to pass 550 cord and 1.5"-2" lanyard makes difference giving you something to pull on and improve the grip for 1 hand opening.'Office use' safe without an intimidation factor and most people react to it with a "how cute" comment but quickly change it to "holly crap that's a mean little knife..." after they use it. If you need to make a color statement or want a different type of blade shape then Ladybug model might be a better and perhaps an additional Spyderco choice :)----------------EDIT NOTE 8/3/13Still love this knife, started to carry it with a small 550 paracord lanyard, mainly updating since amazon removed the customer images feature.image 5 and 6.----------------UPDATE NOTE 8/4/18This little knife still ROCKS! After many many sliced fruits, cardboard and plastic boxes, tape, Cat5 cables, mice and keyboard cords, even used as a screwdriver when necessary. Currently have green paracrord and 2 small skulls. (image 7 and 8). Blade has taken some abuse but mostly from my lack of sharpening skill in early days. I just could not make myself send it in for sharpening and be apart from it.

I have a few knives that I use for everyday carry. It’s the rare occasion that I forget one and when I do I always need a knife. This solves the issue as I have it 100% of the time as it’s on my key ring. It came directly from Spyderco incredibly sharp and ready for use. The best way to describe this knife is that a premium Spyderco knife shrunk down. It locks firmly with no blade wobble and functions perfectly. It’s not a toy or novelty, it’s a real knife.

On arrival, I was surprised by how small this knife is. Yes, I expected the blade to be just under 2 inches in length - required to be legal in some places I might go. But I was nonetheless surprised to find this knife fits easily in the tiny coin pocket of a pair of jeans.That's important, because my other surprise was that this knife lacks both a clip for attaching it to a pocket and any way of adding such a clip. On rereading the description here, I'm sure that was mentioned, but on rereading it again now, I can't find that limitation mentioned, and didn't notice it before purchase.The knife blade itself is sharp and strong and easy to open. Be a bit careful when pressing the latch to close the knife after use, to be sure you don't close the blade on your fingers. That's a concern on all of my Spyderco knives, but a bit more so on this tiny knife.Overall, it's still a great knife to have. I only wish I'd noticed its lack of a pocket clip before arrival.

Supers small, but high quality. This very small knife is good for opening letters, boxes and sharpening carpenter pencils. Has the same quality as their larger, light weight models, but in a nail clipper size. Gave one to my father in law for Chirstmas as the pocket knife he was carrying was dull and of low quality.

Saul Glesser, the owner/designer at Spyderco, must be a perfectionist, because to me it is a toss-up between the Ladybug (Spyderco Labybug 3 Plain Edge Knife, Foliage Green) and the Manbug. No, neither knife has any obvious gender orientation and one does not look more "manly" or "ladylike" than the other (setting aside handle color, of course). But I guess since Glesser gave his original "key chain knife" a "cutesy-pie" name it gave him an opportunity to riff on that name with the "Manbug." If you think "Manbug" is going to transform the key chain Ladybug into a Ramboesque, but still key chain, knife ... well, you take advertising copy way too seriously.True, the blade is wider on the Manbug than on the Ladybug, and so is the handle, but the only important issue is whether the Spydie hole is sufficiently large enough to open the blade one-handed. Yes, it is; but it's also large enough on the current generation Ladybugs to open easily. (That wasn't always the case, the first Ladybug's had a tiny opening hole that was difficult to use.)Although the Manbug and Ladybug perform equally in the hand, to my eyes the Ladybug looks tiny and the Manbug looks robust. That is purely psychological, however, since handle and blade lengths are virtually identical no matter what the specs say.SO which one would I recommend? I recommend the Ladybug since it seems to be priced $5 lower, and since you can get more blade variations and handle colors and even steels. There just isn't that amount of variety in the Manbug line.I prefer the plain edge, conventional blade shape in both lines; but the SpyderEdge edition (full serrations) is intriguing as a last ditch survival knife - if you are thinking or cutting a seatbelt in a car wreck (of course only in the fantasies of knife owners do seat belts routinely jam in car wrecks). Of course if faced with the prospect of a self-administered emergency tracheotomy (the most common Bear Gryll's hypothetical need for a 1 7/8" key chain blade), you are better served by the plain edge, unless you like that raggedly self-administered tracheotomy look. In terms of cutting rope and fabric, serrated is best; for everyday chores, and certainly for ease in sharpening, plain edge is best.(Let's be honest: these things excel for opening our ever anticipated orders from Amazon, and for opening the continually disappointing snail mail that still arrives (since most of us do our bills online, about all that arrives in the mail these days are pleas for donations).Both the Manbug and the Ladybug also provide fodder for stories told to knife loving friends - as in, how someone inevitably gasps when you pull out one of these tiny things to cut string or open a package, and derisively asks, "you carry a KNIFE!". No, urban sheeple, the sort of real (anything less than 5" is "sort of real") knife is in our pocket.

The only functional difference between this knife and the very slightly smaller Ladybug is the Manbug having actually belly to blade and saving the tip from wear during slicing. Choose between the two based on that aspect and jobs planned.Either is fantastic for size. Both will poke through 32 layers of handheld folded coarse linen and slice right through and off edge of folded wad. This is exacto knife performance in blades of standard pocket knife strength and thickness. The VG10 is simply a great steel and stainless as well, perfect for smaller pocket knife blades and their uses. Both are light enough and small enough to cause panic stricken patdowns to make sure knife not left at home or somewhere else. Great security of grip without it translating into grabbing pocket liners as well. Does the job of a knife twice its size with ease. The Perfect Little Pocket or Purse Knife.....period.

迷いましたが買って良かったです。小さいですがコツをつかめばリンゴも剥けました。

Es pequeña, para un llavero y ya, es practica eso si, un EDC, justo. muy agradable, original y todo bien, muy contento con el producto, la hoja tiene el mismo largo de un corcho de vino tinto. el mango es un poco mas largo, un poquito mas largo.
