Love it!
I am extremely pleased with this fountain pen. It is light weight which is wonderful for extended writing sessions (or for anyone with hand pain.) It delivers a fine, yet easily visible/readable line. Despite generally preferring medium pens, I LOVE this particular fine nib. It does not feel dry or scratchy. The cap gives a nice click when fully closed. You should note that the cap does not post to the end of the pen, which I do not mind in the least. I have been writing with it extensively with the included cartridge for several weeks now and it has not yet run out of ink and the pen has shown no signs of being inferior in any way. The included carbon ink has been water resistant/proof on all the papers I tested and does not feather, bleed to the other side or smear. This included testing and using on good quality papers, standard copy paper and even thin dollar store notebook paper. I use this pen mostly for writing and also tried it for artwork. It has become my main pen for writing at my desk. I am highly satisfied and recommend this pen.

Very Good Pen Regardless of its Low Price
I have owned a couple other pens made by Platinum. If you tried them then you know that they come with a very pleasant to write with nibs. This one seems to be the same nib and the same simple feed part as their popular preppy pens come equipped with. For me it means it writes very well, has good ink flow, and feels âsmoothâ or âsoftâ when writing. To be fair all fountain pens will create a feeling of âscratchingâ against the paper. That is normal. But this and other Platinum pens have less of it.The one thing I have to mention for people who want to have an idea before buying. The pen is very lightweight. It does not mean it is inferior in any way. Actually a lot of people want a very light pen. Also because the body of the pen is made of plastic make sure not to play roughly with it in your hands because if you try bending it, it can bend by a few degrees and then look âwarpedâ. If pens that are not perfectly straight annoy you then this is something to be aware of.Also, by the pen design it is not meant to have a cap attach to its back. So donât try to post it.

Great for an artist!
Pen body is relatively cheap plastic. It's pretty well balanced and longer for holding it at different lengths.Pros:The magic is in the nib, firm with a little bit of flex but perfect for accurate mark making. I have fallen in love with this pen. It serves and a detail pipework and hatching pen.Cons:I really wish they made a pocket size one. The length is almost too long to fit in my pencil case. But I unsterstand why they have traditionally kept the length. The ink, is well finicky. It takes a while to completely dry for light watercolor washes and sometimes smudges. I'd recommend waiting a while before adding anything wet on top and do a test sample first.I wish the ink was darker but that can be fixed with an adaptor and finding my own ink to put in it.Even with the few cons, I have to say it is absolutely my new favorite pen. It has revitalized my love for inking. Thank you Platinum for making such a wonderful product!

Very different from the platinum fountain pen that I was used to
The media could not be loaded. I was working on my sketchbook, this fountain pen is brand new with almost no use. Ăm trying it for the second time because the first time that I tried to use it, was not working for me, so I did the previous sketch with another pen. The lines turn out exceedingly thin and irregular, even thought the cartridge is new the pen is not working. Horrible, not comparable to the first Platinum pen that I purchased here, which is currently unavailable and was of great quality. I do not recommend this product. Switch to another brand. Be aware that the ink cartridge included IS NOT waterproof ink.

Ink not waterproof ... what else is fake?
The old version of this pen is discontinued so I thought I'd give this a try. The ink cartridge that came with it was definitely not waterproof. I was expecting Platinum carbon black to be. I guess it writes ok .. a bit scratchy, so that's a 'no' for me.

It's okay
Since Amazon tends to group assorted reviews - this is for the pen listed as Platinum Fountain Pen, Black Body (DPQ-700A#1). I am including a comparison photo next to the Platinum Carbon Extra-Fine Pen. The package was in Japanese but it did have the words Platinum Desk Pen. I have a feeling this will not fit in the desk pen base that is available for the Carbon pen since it has a platinum slip cap. I do appreciate the Platinum slip cap - it keeps the ink from drying out, this pen has a clip on the cap as well which is nice. The pen writes okay after I just filled it but it troubles me that the vent hole is not punched out. There are no identifying marks on the pen's cap or body, just a "P" stamp on the nib. The ink has no identifying markings, which Carbon ink usually states on the cartridge that it is carbon ink. The ink that came with the pen did not pass the waterproof test so that't another indication it is not carbon ink - which no where in the listing does it claim to be a carbon pen but the shape of the pen causes confusion since it is so close to the shape of the Carbon pen. The fine nib writes the same as a fine nib on a Preppy or a Plasir. I am able to get an extra fine line by writing with back side of the nib. I will be keeping the pen because I'm a sucker for a slip cap, but if I I need a fine nib Platinum my first choice would be the Preppy of Plasir. If I want an extra fine I prefer the Platinum Carbon pen.

EF not F. Cartridge not waterproof
Years ago in college I drew with a well known âArt Penâ and loved it. I was looking on Amazon and itâs rather expensive. I found this one and decided to buy it along with Platinum Carbon Ink cartridges. Itâs not made nearly as well but it works just as well. Be aware of two things; itâs not an F, itâs an EF. The line is very fine. The second thing is that the cartridge that comes with it is NOT waterproof carbon ink. If you want to try an inexpensive art pen this is it!
