Q: Is this just a thin covering? So if I wanted to make an ironing pad to cover an entire table, I would need the padding/insulating layers too?

Yes, this is about the same thickness as cotton fabric. I made pot holders and sandwiched 3 layers of quilt batting in between the metallic fabric and the cotton fabric. I then bound and quilted that sandwich to make the pot holders. It works really well. It's the same idea as any iron pad that you would buy retail but you can be the judge of how much padding to put in. I did a little test to determine how many layers I would need. 3 seemed to work. We use the pot holders all the time and the metallic fabric is holding up well. Hope this helps.

It was folded, however it ironed out fine.

Q: Is this material esd (anti-static) safe? i'm looking to make bean bags to put on circuit boards to hold down parts as they go through the wave machine

I don't know for sure if it's anti static but I definitely have not noticed any static electricity build up at all

Q: Can I use this fabric to make window curtains to shield from the scorching sun?

IDK. This is made for ironing board covers to reflect heat. For window covers you would want something with insulating value, such as rain-no-stain.

Great for ironing station

This came folded up and was a little wrinkled, but after ironing it, it lost the wrinkles. It was super easy to work with and is a good, thick material. I made an ironing station with it by placing a few layers of batting under it and using plywood as the base. Was just shy of 60 inches wide-but I just cut the wood to make it work.
