Tom and Jerry - Spotlight Collection

Buy this if you love the classic Tom & Jerry. I've purchased all 3 volumes of the Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection as well as the Chuck Jones DVD. That covers all of the episodes other than the Gene Deitch episodes and supposedly 2 or 3 others that are so racially charged that they have been censured from existence. All are labeled as being for adults because some of the episodes contain smoking, drinking, and racism. I contend that they were hilarious when I was a kid and still are. Given that I didn't turn out to be a chain-smoking, alcoholic, member of the KKK, I can only assume that watching these episodes does not have that effect on children. If you believe otherwise, please stick to the modern broadcasts or look elsewhere for entertainment. At the time when we got these episodes my daughter was 4 or 5 years old and got very upset when anything bad happened to anyone in a cartoon. Tom and Jerry was the perfect thing because they continually do mean things to each other and keep coming back for more. There was no long term impact. It could just be a funny cartoon. In short, she quickly grew to love them and we've watched all of the episodes multiple times. I think it helped me give her a grasp on what was real vs what was pretend and silly. Your mileage may vary. ...after all, your child could grow up to be a chain smoking alcoholic member of the KKK if exposed to this filth.

Hanna-Barbera, in the Tom and Jerry phase of their careers, are right up there with Michelangelo and Van Gogh and El Greco. The incredible subtleties of expression and body language, especially with Jerry and Nibbles, are a treasure trove. Disney, of course, is responsible for some wonderful animated films, but these shorts just thrill my heart. I saw these as a kid, but I didn’t REALLY SEE until now. Please buy all three volumes while they’re still around, and thank your lucky stars for Warner Video and Amazon. I hope they run these in Heaven. What would Heaven be without them?

First off, I am a huge Tom and Jerry fan. The idea of cat vs mouse should not work so well, but it does. Even with little dialogue these are some of the funniest shorts I have ever seen. To me they are just as good as the Looney Tunes shorts. Although there are several single disc releases of the toons, I knew if I waited long enough we would get a box set of them. Also many of the single disc releases are censored, which is absolutely rediculous. Now we get a 2 disc set of 40 remastered shorts that are supposedly (and hopefully) uncensored. That would be the way to do it since they were meant to be seen in all of their original glory. I have searched everywhere but I can't find an episode listing yet. Maybe the studio hasn't released that yet, but I did find info on extras for the set: Commentary by Jerry Beck on The Zoot Cat, Heavenly Puss and Kitty Foiled. Also on Jerry Dances With Gene Kelly, Tom and Jerry Swim With Esther Williams Behind The Tunes:The MGM Orchestra--20 minute documentary on the music from the show How Bill and Joe Met Tom and Jerry--origin of the series lasting 27 minutes. Sneek Peeks From the information we have been given, this looks to finally give the right treatment for some of the greatest toons of all-time. And I am hyped that Heavenly Puss will be on here, it is a favorite of mine. The price of this set is perfect, and for $[...] you get 40 full, supposedly uncensored Tom and Jerry shorts. Any fan of the series should not pass this up especially at Amazon's low pre-order price. Hopefully they will release an episode listing soon, but be assured that this promises to be a great release. I understand the negative hoopla surrounding this set -- up to a point. OK, an artist's work should never be compromised, edited, suppressed etc. So if some of these shorts have been sanitized for today's PC market, then shame on MGM. That said, I'm having a fantastic time watching this collection. The Tom and Jerry cartoons fall, for me, somewhere between the Warner Bros. Loony Tunes and the Disney shorts; they lack the sophisticated wit of the former, yet have more bite than most of the latter. They're funny, fast and brilliantly directed. (There's a very interesting interview with Hanna and Barbera on Disc One about pacing, sound effects, visuals -- and how they're all put together.) I particularly admire their lush colors and the superb detail to the background paintings. Whatever its shortcomings, this is a collection I'll be watching over and over through the years, not one I'll end up reselling on Amazon. I can't wait for Volume 2.

We bought this to play in the minivan, and the grandkids love it. But some episodes are super quiet, so we need to turn the volume way up, then the next episode comes on and blasts us! Needed to be mixed better.

Excellent Delivery and Product Quality Matched.

My friend loved this. I purchased this set for her as a X-mas gift.

Good movie.

The DVD is amazing. My both daughters love to watch this.

Ordered this for my boys and they love it :) delivery was great didnt take too long at all, will definitely will be ordering some more.

Never-ending fun. Don't bother reading reviews about it and just buy it! Tom and Jerry never stops being funny and don't worry about the violence. I grew up with this and turned out just fine. I am no bully and now Criminal lol

Ordered this item, waited for more then a month, still no luck Rarewaves USA, probably did not dispatch my order, not good customer service, got all three volumes 1-2-3 from ebay for £26.00 a bargain, note Volume 1 is just known as Spotlight Collection unlike all the other 2 remaining Volumes , this item has no indication on the cover or disc what volume it is, which i assume is Volume One. The cartoons are uncut and there's a disclaimer about the racial stereotypes present in some of The Tom and Jerry Shorts, The commentary is presented by Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act) that clearly states this item is for the Adult Collector, as they see it may offend children, which i don't clearly understand why it should upset a 5/6+ year old child, it's not like he/she is going to cry his/her eyes out. Anyways the discs i had received are Region Free, it states on the cover/disc it's a Region 1, playing it on my computer, DVD player without any problems, no message shown about the disc being region locked. Packaging is cardboard this item does not come in a standard Amaray DVD case in which later releases were distributed. Very pleased with the quality of the cartoons presented very good quality for it's age no compression artefacts present. DVD is a dual layer, You get two discs per Volume, i would suggest buying the cardboard edition as later noncardboard editions may have Region Locking enabled, so here's your chance to own a fabulous classic of Tom and Jerry on DVD.

Still clear when played in dvd player. Giving back good old classic tom and jerry episodes we watched as a kid.
