Diamond Farrier 61B 36 oz Rounding Hammer

I bought this hammer to aid in demonstrating blacksmithing a few years ago, and now after some wear and use it still looks great, how many times does that happen now a days?!?!

The hammer is reasonably priced and arrived quickly. The hammer head is good quality steel with good impact resistance. It is reasonably well balanced, but both the rounded and flat sides had weird bevels at the edges that had to be re-dressed. I removed the bevel edges and flattened the almost flat side. The handle is good quality wood and correctly (tightly) fitted into the head and locked in with steel ring. The only downside to the handle is the varnish finish, which I also removed and substituted rubbed linseed oil finish. I'm satisfied with the hammer and it is now one of my favorites for forging, especially when working smaller steel.

This is my first experience with a rounding hammer and won't be my last! Showed up really quick I think 3 days after I ordered it. When I received it is noticed that the rounding face had a pretty sharp bevel on the face a little time with the file and sand paper cleaned it beautifully. Look up dressing a hammer face. The handle was nice but I sanded off the laquer and started putting boiled linseed oil on the handle. It is really starting to get that nice used warn look.

Good quality hammer. Has good weight behind it. Smaller than expected, but new to blscksmithing, so my mistake. Very pleased overall.

Like others suggested, I softened the sharp lip on the round side of the hammer. This has become my go-to hammer in my short blacksmithing career.

Bought as a gift for my husband who blacksmiths. It arrived in good time and he was very happy with it. He is able to so a lot more intricate work.
