Reed plates a (somewhat) less expensive fix for harmonica gone sour
Lee Oskar reed plates offer a reasonable way to avoid buying a new harmonica when the old one has a couple of sour or dead reeds. I find that the high octave root note (an A in this case) in my harps sometimes goes flat, and it's a matter of five or ten minutes, tops, to replace the reed plate. I always replace both the top and bottom plates (the draw and blow plates), since they are always sold as a pair.Actually, I wish there were a way to replace just one reed, but with the way harmonica reeds are riveted to the plate, I suppose that's just about impossible.I've occasionally seen complaints about the difficulty of replacing the reed plates, but I've replaced the plates on various Oskar harps over the years, and have never had any trouble. Y' gotta read the directions, thought.

The reeds are great. Of course you'll more than likely have to ...
To start off. I've never played harps before. But I'm a woodworker and i decided to make wooden harmonicas. Covers and combs. I chose lee oskars replacement reeds after some checking around. The reeds are great. Of course you'll more than likely have to fine tune the reeds themselves. They come with a very helpfull "how to" sheet.

Best Harmonica Replacement Reeds
I use Lee Oskar harps because the instrument is well made and you can replace the reeds for about half the price of a new harmonica. Other brands, although comparable in quality, are much more expensive to repair.

Didn't work out initally for mem but worked out in the end. (See follow-up comment)
I don't know if the kits are good or bad overall, but the kit I received did not work out for me. I installed the reeds a few days ago. This is the first time I've purchased this type of kit. The results are not satisfactory and I've ended up purchasing a new harp anyway. I was very careful and followed the instructions. Lee Oskar's generally take more air to work the lower registers than others like the special 20, but I'm used to that and love the tone. But in this case, the 1, 2, and 3 draw take way too much air and bends are really hard. This is more than just a breaking-in issue.

WOW!
A blow-out reed went south, and 1/ replacement reeds or 2/ a whole new harp were the alternatives to a junker. Not only did the reeds kit work great (I used the old original screws rather than mess with the new kit screws, and I carefully/gently did the replacement work with my Leatherman phillips screwdriver) so it performs like new...I get to keep the old scuzzy harmonica pieces that I know and love so it sounds/feels like an old friend brought back from the grave! A harmonica is a personal thing. Thanks, bro!

High quality harps, poor quality repalcements.
I switched to Lee Oskars from Honer special 20's to save money on replacements, at almost $40. Per harp a busy musician can go through 2-3 of frequently used keys in a years time. While i've been happy with the quality and playability of these harps the replacement reeds were a disappointment. I ordered 4 new sets and 3 of them had problems out of the box. After a couples hours of tweaks i was able to get 2 of them into useable shape but none of them played as well as the new harps did.

I feel like I am getting too much escaping air
This is my first use of these replaceable reed plates. I wish the plates could be more easier identified as to top and bottom/blow and draw reeds. I feel like I am getting too much escaping air. It is also difficult to obtain bends on the low end.

the replacement reeds are right on!! Thank you Amazon and Lee Oskar
Thank you from a performing musician!!- being able to get the rapid response from Amazon so quickly on these reed plates really saved the show. Thank You Lee Oskar for supplying the reed plates. The pitches in my old reed plates had blown out.Right out of the package the plates went back in and sealed perfect. The pitch of each of the notes where spot on - no trimming or filing was necessary. Keep holding the cost down on the reed plates and I will keep buying. Thanks!
