The type of game that you hate in the beginning, then want to keep playing after it finishes.
NieR Replicant, ver. 1.22474487139...The prelude to NieR: Automata, remastered, with added Ending "E" NieR: Automata level, which is very much worth experiencing. If you enjoyed NieR: Automoata then you will probably like this game, although it may take a dozen hours before you feel comfortable with the controls. There is a free DLC for NieR Automata's weapons, clothing, and Mother's Diary. The DLC levels have rudimentary graphics, but the different music breaks the musical monotony, which is very much welcomed.Like Nier: Automata, the time clock only goes up to 99:59:59, which is of interest to the Completionist, but the actual time can be see on the Status Tab of Grimoir Weiss' menu, although the time spent after the user's data gets erased, when entering Ending 'E,' is not added on after Kaine's 'E' level. The completionist may need to cheat (find the info on the Internet) to find which Quest not to take as it initiates a Boss battle that afterwards renders current quests uncompletable, the start of part 'B' of the game.I found the initial default game controls totally un-useable, but after setting the Game Controls: Camera: right stick to Look and the left stick to Move, along with inverting the Camera Vertical, the game became playable. You will become used to the Controls after awhile, especially if you tweak them as you go.One can roll as in Zelda: Ocarina of Time.It is best to only sell off vegetables, meats and books as many resources will be needed to upgrade weapons later on. Some resources are very scarce, in some cases nearly impossible to find, or re-find after certain scenes play out, while others can only be procured via fishing. In every game there is usually one level, one part, or segment, that one hates, where having played it once, one never wants to play it ever again. It's as if the developer made a conscious effort to make the game frustratingly hard. In NieR Replicant it is the platform jumping and Side Scroller sections: the double-jump-evade section of the B1 Junk Yard level, the sinking blocks of the Desert Barren Temple, the Mother's Diary side-scroller.After the game restarts after ending A or B, if one ends up with a Power Level 30 on the Intro Level, one still starts the main game at Power Level 1, which means having to slog through a dozen hours to get past the B1 Level. There are no Save Points in the Ending 'E,' Kainé, segment, so one must allot an un-interrupted hour to complete it. And while the 'E" ending is appropriate, there is a better ending, IMO, the Time Warp ending, which Grimoire alludes to early in the game. The Mansion 1st floor movement is very "wonky," where the walking direction abruptly changes and one then ends up moving the stick in a reverse direction to be able to move forward, while concentrating on the map. The Junk Yard level camera not always responsive in certain rooms as it changes to an over-view shooter. Sometimes you'll enter a room blind. In the Second Part of the game it becomes not always easy to switch between weapon selection and magic verse weapon assignment, many times necessitating moving 2 feet in another direction, or depressing the Menu button again, to access the Grimoire Menu: Word Edit to assign newly acquired Magic Verses to one's weapons. Many weapons not worth upgrading. Many side quests not worth doing (although the first Fisherman quest is mandatory to move the story-line forward.)There are obvious parts of the game that were unfinished. It would have been nice if they had been completed in the remake.Other problems: There was one scene where the older protagonist was shown instead of the younger re-mastered boy. At one point the game did not correctly add two double gold bonuses. After 100 hours I turned off all the music. It had become annoying.I hated slogging through the first 12 hours, but after the game was finished I wish I could go back and get 100% Completion. I only got 90% of the verses. I wish I could have gotten Kaine's swords earlier in the game, so all I could do was re-play certain scenes over and over.

A pretty relaxed game.
Subject material is pretty dark here but the overall pacing of the game is pretty slow. It’s very nice to sit back and just play for a couple hours at a time but definitely not something to rush through. Despite that, movement and combat are both very active and fast paced. Music is also fantastic.

There are no Heroes
If you played Automata first like I did, this game will give you a lot of context in terms of the story and lore. This game is WAY darker than Automata. Once you realize what has been going on, what you have been doing for your entire play-through(s), you realize that there are no heroes in this story. You did whatever it took to save the one you loved, not once considering the consequences of your actions. You are the man who destroyed the world. And you were oblivious to the very end.The details of the plot are not explicitly explained to you, it's up to you to put the pieces together. But once you do, it creates a powerful narrative that puts Automata in perfect context.Gameplay wise, it's not as good as Automata, but is very enjoyable nonetheless, especially the magic abilities. The combat and RPG elements are very watered down, there are times you wish they could be more polished. But you have to remember this is a remaster of a 10 year old game. Besides, this is a game you play for the story, not for the combat (on easy mode, there's even an option to make the game play itself for you, literally). If you played Automata and enjoyed it, I highly recommend this game. It's a different, less polished experience, but quite a ride nonetheless.

So good, I played Automata and the Drakengard prequels.
For a remester, this is one of the best games I've ever played! Yoko Taro quickly cemented his position as one of my favorite game designers and creative minds. His approach? He questions the act of killing in video games in very fascinating ways. No one is a hero when you've killed hundreds of "enemies". He does this by focusing on the characters, their motives, their flaws, and interactions with others and the world as a whole. It's great. Can't recommend playing this game enough!
