MEIKO KAJI BEST COLLECTION(6SHM+DVD)

This is a review I posted on Amazon Japan's page for this item in 2010 shortly after this box set was first released (at that time not available through Amazon US): "I have been a big Meiko Kaji for several years. It has been very difficult to find her music in America. I was very happy to learn about this box set and ordered it with much excitement! The box itself is very attractive, compact and sturdy. All 6 music CDs have beautiful artwork and the mastering and sound quality is superb! They are all SHM-CDs. I have not had much experience with this form but the sound of these discs is miraculous! And the music... These 6 CDs contain 82 tracks. Every song is a gem! Not a bit of filler! I have not played or viewed the Special Interview DVD as it has no English subtitles and I don't understand Japanese, but the package also has great artwork. There is also a CD-jewel-case-sized photobook with lots of great photographs of Meiko Kaji through the years. Also included is a lyric book (in Japanese Kanji) which contains a detailed discography in the back. This collection comes with a very heavy price tag. I have to say that this is worth every penny! This has to be the finest box set I have ever seen (and heard) from any one artist!" At this date, more than 3 years later, I still feel that this set is worth the cost. That said, it is still less costly to purchase through Amazon Japan (Amazon.co.jp) even after international shipping costs.

A truly beautiful and thoughtfully assembled set. As of writing this you can still get it from cd japan and they got it to me quickly and safely. I actually have the original LP versions of most of these albums and the CD's hold up well against them (though I still prefer vinyl...). The only problem with the original vinyls is that finding copies in pristine/audiophile condition commands a high price tag and even then their sound quality will depend heavily on how carefully they were stored (with heat and pressure the famous Japanese plastic inner sleeves can actually chemically fuse to the records and damage the vinyl, it especially affects vocal and horn sounds with noticeable distortion). I would say this set is certainly the next best thing and my only hope is that the masters will eventually be refashioned as 24/192 hd files or somebody will find it in their heart to do some faithful vinyl represses (her catalog is worth the trouble!). If you are a true Meiko fan then you will quickly realize this set is worth every penny/yen.

梶芽衣子さんといえば、クールビューティーな容姿と目力が着目されますが、歌唱力も素晴らしいことを改めて認識させられます。「怨み節」のようなこぶしの効いた曲がある一方で「南風」のようなウィスパーボイスな曲があったり、並の歌手より振り幅の広いバラエティに富んだ曲の数々を歌いこなしてしまう芽衣子さんはまさに「歌う女優」です。一番のお気に入りは「はぐれ節」芽衣子さんのカッコ良さ全開で痺れました。少し高い買い物でしたが買って良かったです。

女囚さそり、野良猫ロック、修羅雪姫等、 世界的にも評価が高い 映画の主演をつとめた 梶 芽衣子さん。 すっぱりした格好良いスタイル クールビューティーの元祖ともいうべく 本物のクールビューティーとはこれぞと 世に知らしめ今も尚、彼女の リスペクトと賞賛の声は止まない。 真っ直ぐに女優を生きた梶芽衣子さんという 素晴らしい女優の真っ直ぐな歌声と一緒に 代表映画の名シーンが思い浮かびます。 全CDを聴いた感想としては 時を経ても彼女の歌作品が全て 古びていなく格好良いところに 驚愕しました。 梶さんの歌唱は勿論ですが 携わったスタッフの方々の 力の入り方が伺いしれます。 梶芽衣子の歌世界ここにあり 貴重な歌作品集に 感謝感謝です。
