OK, first thing, it's built like a tank! I've only gotten to use it a few times so far but I'm very pleased. I guess my only complaint is that for a grill at this price, it should've come with some of the necessary accessories. I guess I spent another $200 on the accessories for indirect cooking, smoking, grate lifter, etc.

Grill and smoker I love the fact that the primo does both. Couldn’t be happier with it.

Two years old now and starting to have issues. The top cap paint flaked off, the chrome basket on the bottom of the cart is rusting, the temp gauge is stuck on 150F. I paid for a quality product and take pride in what I own. I called Primo Customer Service and spoke with Denise Elam. I was told to pound sand, they were not interested in helping with any defective parts. Great product, just no customer service after the purchase. Buyer beware.

I owned Big Green Egg smokers for 20 years before opting for the Primo XL. This is an outstanding smoker, best in class in my opinion. Very easy to use, extremely well made, and very functional

I owned the Primo XL Grill since 2011 and just decided to write this review. Overall, the grill is great. I like its size and the amount of food you can cook with it. After over 7 years, my firebox did crack and when I reached out to their support, they ask me to send them a photo to process the claim. I will be doing that soon as I have to also take a photo of the cast iron charcoal grate. I like to also mention that unlike my previous correspondence with them a few years ago, their response this time was pretty timely. A few years ago, you can't even get a reply back. So that is a good sign.A few bad things about the Primo is the hardware they used. I am not sure what kind of stainless steel they used in their product but it is junk. The grate lifter rusted after first exposure to the elements. The same thing with the chrome basket under the cart. Worse is the wheel stopper on the cart, it rusted so badly, it fell off about 5 months after I got the grill. When I called them back then, they were willing to send me the replacement caster wheel, I will have to pay for the shipping but who the heck will install those? It will require me to take out the grill to replace the caster in the cart. I decided to not bother with it. But for them to charge a premium, the least they could do is use better quality parts. Finally, the price of their parts like ceramic grate, cast iron grate are quite high.

I have had my Primo for six years and never have done a review. It is the best! I've had smokers from many different manufacturers and none come close. There is a green one that's good, but not like the Primo! Engineering and construction are tops. I've had to replace the felt a couple of times, and, in fairness, the utensils (grill lifter, etc.) aren't good quality, but it is the smoker itself that is the best. Holds heat like crazy, so winter cooking is a snap. I keep my smoker inside my garage and roll it out when I cook. The exterior looks like it did when I bought it aside from the smoked up vent. No rust, everything works like a charm (exception is the utensils). I do clean the exterior with a good cleaner, but I don't use water. I do not scrub or use any abrasive on the grill surfaces. I use vegetable oil and paper towels after the heat gets up to 250 or so and the surfaces are hot. I rub vigorously until the accumulated fat comes off to my satisfaction. I close the top and let it reheat before I place the meat. Everything is sterile by the time I introduce the meat and have not one speck of rustOne thing I notice is that most people cook with too much heat, IMHO. I don't do steak or burgers...I do ribs, loin, shoulder, turkey, chicken, brisket, etc. Low and slow is king in my world. A little hickory and/or oak, sometimes pecan or cherry for a nice smoke on poultry. Too much heat and I don't get good results.OK, just to let you know, I also tried THE big name in pellet smokers and it was a real joke. Won't hold a steady temp, has to be tended on long "cooks" or the drill will get stuck and the smoker will shut down, etc. Can't cook anything with good results. I think it was a faulty sensor or something, but they Customer service was abysmal (no help, just sorry that I didn't get satisfactory results}.You can't go wrong if you are a serious "smoker" and do it right.
