Perfect for Artists and Photographers
I use this protractor to make certain my cameras and the art work I am photographing are absolutely parallel with each other. By keeping the angle of the camera and the angle of the paintings etc. exactly the same there are no converging lines and rectangles stay rectangles. The technique using this goes like this:1. Painting on an easel and level it side to side.2. Camera on a tripod and level it side to side.3. Take the Empire Level and place its flat side gently on the surface of the painting.4. Take it off the painting and rotate the center so the bubble will be exactly centered when you place it gently back on the surface of the painting.5. Repeat 4 as needed until bubble is perfectly centered when placing it on the painting.6. Now take the Empire Level and put it on the front of your camera lens (you will have to flip the level over and be careful not to change the settings at all)7. Take YOUR CAMERA and tilt it forward or backward until the bubble is in the center when you place the Empire level on the front of your camera lens. Do not change the rotation of the Empire level as your camera must MATCH EXACTLY the angle of your painting.8. This will create a perfect image of the painting with NO distortion.NOTE: Shooting outside on a slightly overcast day is the best lighting to capture accurate colors and very even lighting across the artwork. If you want to have some tearing-out-your hair fun, try shooting artwork that is behind glass. hahahahahaTIP: If you are using a digital camera, turn on the grid in the preview screen. This will help with initial alignment. Using the grid by itself is not perfect but combined with the Empire Level is fantastic!

Don’t waste your money on this
The magnet on this is the cheapest and useless magnet. I wouldn’t even classify it as a magnet. It does not stay on anything metal it falls off and this thing looks like something that came out of a gum all machine.

Dial an angle and level it out!
Perfect for the job at hand. It's got a weak magnet on the base so you can sort of attach it to metal. The housing is plastic and seems durable. The dial is tight (as perhaps it should be). Form and function are there without issue, and for the price it was exactly what I needed. We initially used it in a science experiment by attaching to a bracket and using it for determining angles of release for arrows shot from a recurve bow as part of a 5th grade science experiment on the ballistic trajectory of projectiles... Now that first prize has been won, the tool will go in the tool box for future projects!

Is this what I ordered?
It was defiantly not what I was expecting, but that may be my own fault. It works as it should, and I'll make it work for myself.
