New BalanceMen's 608 V5 Casual Comfort Cross Trainer

As shown in the picture, the toe box on the 608v5 (left) is much, much narrower than it was on the 608v3 (right). I bought these to replace my old 608v3 shoes, and I bought the same size and width. While the old 608v3 shoes fit my feet perfectly, the new 608v5 shoes are much too narrow up front, causing my big toe to jam into the side of the shoe. The rest of the shoe feels the same in terms of length and in terms of width along the rest of the shoe. I don't know why New Balance would make such a dramatic change in the fit (or last) but keep the same model number. Very disappointing.

I've been wearing the 608 V4 for years. Love them. I hate the Version 5. I've tried to break this pair in; but, I've given up. When I compare the Version 4 to the Version 5, I can see a slight difference in how they shoes fit around the ankle. As a result, it presses against the bottom of my ankle and causes my little toe to go spastic. A mile into my walk, my ankle and little toe are numb on my right foot.

I have been thru several different makes and models in the last few years and was disappointed by every purchase.I have arthritis in both ankles and my left was shattered in an accident and is always painful. I was buying spongy shoes for the cushioning but those bothered my hips and back. My feet also roll outward and the shoes were only lasting 8-10 weeks. I've been wearing this current pair for 4 months and they are still supportive and comfortable. I hope New Balance doesn't mess with a good thing as they seem to always do. I would recommend these to anyone needing a supportive cushioned shoe.Update: I live in SW FL. where it rains everyday. I was wearing a new pair to work and I got caught in a downpour. I work outside so I ended up having to walk in soggy sand and when the shoe got wet it lost all support.The shoes were only a week old and I ended up with my foot rolled outward and I was walking on the actual side of the shoe. Being out of town for a job I had to wear them walking on the side for 2 more days. My ankles hurt so bad I had to crawl through the house because I could not walk. This went on for 2 more days before I could put any weight on them.Having worn New Balance for as long as I can remember I ordered another pair and it felt awkward after just trying the on. I took a mini square and was amazed how far the shoe was. The top part of the shoe was attached to the sole crooked.SEE PIC.I just ordered a pair of Reebok DMX Max to try.

My old pair of New Balance 608V2 shoes were pretty worn out so I started looking at the newer versions and came across these 608v5 models. Super comfortable - feel like they're broken in right out of the box. Lighter than the older ones as well. These are my church and dress up shoes as well as just good old everyday shoes if needed. Worth every $

I wear a size 9 walking shoe, but run in a 9 1/2 to avoid hammer toe. This size 9 shoe is the same or possibly slightly larger than most of the 9 1/2 running shoes I wear. They have extra room, but not too much that I would order a size smaller. Normally, a 9 fits my foot like a glove with just enough extra room for my toe. If a 9 normally fit me a little loose then these would be too big. These shoes serve as a black dress shoe for me. I don't care for the firm leather sole found on most dress shoes. Plus, if I need to make up time or hustle to meet someone, I can easily break into a run with these and run as long as necessary without doing harm to my feet or legs. After looking at pictures and pricing for all the New Balance black walking and cross trainer shoes, I chose this particular pair because they are completely black (no silver reflective material anywhere) and the panel covering the toe box is also leather, not the woven material typically used for extra breathability on running shoes. Hence, visually they are more suitable to use a black dress shoe. BTW, I love the cushioning in these shoes. It rivals the cushioning found in most running shoes and is far superior to that found in a typical walking shoe.

Mine were very uneven when placed oin a flat surface - this is what I've been told to do by shoe buyers! If they wobble front to back/side-side - they are not good to wear. These were definitely not good to wear. Plus, the order page only gave "WIDE" as a choice, and they cam e to me as 2E, when I needed 4E.

I originally bought and reviewed these shoes years ago, I bought it for long days standing at work and my feet being in pain when I got home. I'm overweight so good shoes really matters to me, so without trying these out much I kinda tossed them in the closet. Years later, after trying everything from Ultraboosts to Brooks, I'm back with these shoes. Because I heard something interesting. For most overweight people with flat feet, it's actually preferable to wear shoes with little to no arch support. All this time I was under the impression that I need arch support, but at least for me and my foot, it's the exact opposite. I need the lack of arch support these shoes give me. I completely underestimated this shoe.Now I'm wearing them to work every day and the pain is pretty much gone. I'm not saying this is the perfect shoe for pain relief, but if you've tried every shoe out there with talk of arch support or motion control and nothing helped, try these. You may be surprised.------Old review.They're decent shoes. They're not terrible, but they're not amazing either. If you have foot pain, this won't fix it, low arches; this won't help it. I also feel like the V4s of this same shoes was slightly better. The cushioning just felt better really.Just don't expect too much out of these, they're actually really decent work shoes if you're in a kitchen, very slip resistant.

Compared to version 4, it feels better cushioned and the toe box is bigger in my D width. Some may not like the fake leather, but I think it looks nice and will clean with a damp sponge which makes them the perfect winter walking shoe.

When you find a shoe you like, that fits you great, is really comfortable, and looks good - just keep buying it!This is version 5 of the model 608, and at least the 4th or 5th pair of 608s that I’ve owned over many years. I wear them as a casual shoe, everyday, everywhere. New Balance has 1/2 sizes and a wide variety of widths so they fit better than any other running shoe. I can walk all day through a convention floor or theme park, and at the end of the day, still feel great. They look good enough to wear with casual pants or jeans at the office. The leather will survive puddles, and wipes up clean. Oh, and they last a long time too!

I found the toe box much smaller than my old pair and these are quite stiff, I tried walking in our living room with them, but the design , the narrow fit, the smaller size all added up to a very uncomfortable runner. I really wish NB wouldn't take a great shoe and redesign it after all these years. I'm a ladies 13 M and these were one size too small.Considering I ordered men's 11.5 , I would have thought they had to fit. I so wanted them too! But rule of thum: one finger's width between heel and shoe in athletic wear.

These New Balance walking shoes have held up incredibly well since July, 2019! They look almost brand new! Check out the pics. I am a big guy and I have worn them almost daily, walking about 5 kms per day on pavement, gravel paths, and dirt nature trails, in all weather conditions. They are very high quality.The good: very durable and very comfortable. They have been soaking wet and dried out several times and still look good.The bad: They kind of tilt forward because the heel is so high. I think this is by design since they are "walking shoes," but it takes a bit of getting used to and I would prefer a flat sole, tbh. After a year and a half of heavy use the cushioning has finally gone out of the heel on the left shoe and it has sort of collapsed internally. The left shoe has finally lost its mojo. Other than the internal collapse of the one heel, the shoes are in great condition and the treads seem barely worn. I really trust the New Balance brand after owning these shoes.

I have been wearing New Balance shoes for years as they are not expensive, are very well made and have a variety of different sizes and styles to choose from. I was very happy to find this new version of the 608 cross trainer as they had fit absolutely perfectly when I had purchased the original version over 20 years ago. So I was very pleased to find out when I received these from Amazon that they fit me exactly as they did all those years ago and still maintained the high standard of craftsmanship. Great value, great fit and great quality! Thanks Amazon and thanks New Balance!

Fit as expected. Did receive just prior to a 12 day vacation and slightly concerned with comfort and potential heal issues which is a concern. A 2 minute walk around the store is not necessarily indicative of issues until you have a more extensive walk. And yes, have shoes in the closet with that problem.
