Are the boots waterproof?

Has anyone had issues with the zipper digging into the back of your ankle? I had this issue with others after broken in.

Can I wear these in rain? Or would I ruin them?

I need a wide calf, but a normal width foot. Does the 7W refer to the calf width or the foot width?
