Brother SE350 Computerized Embroidery-and-Sewing Machine

I could not be happier with this sewing machine. I upgraded from a 10 year old very basic model Brother machine, and boy what a difference! My favorite feature is the ability to sew without the foot pedal. I have lower back issues and this has increased my comfort greatly when sewing for long periods of time. I have used this now for name embroidery, making small market bags, tag-covered baby blankets and a large quilt that I am currently working on. The only issue that I have run into so far is with the quilt. It does not feed well with the bulk I am trying to push through it, but as quilts are a once or twice a year project for me, I'm not too concerned. This quilt is unusually thick compared to others I have made as well, with regular quilters fabric as the top, a double layer of batting and a furry fabric for the back. Happy sewing!

I purchased this 2yrs ago. After my ghetto singer died after 15yrs. It was my moms when I was a kid. I needed it for basic sewing. I liked the high tech in it. So I purchased it. What a dream. It threads it self no bobbin issues. I can adjust the speed. i don't even use the pressure foot!! I use the button. I was a beginer sewer. I taught myself as a kid. And lets just say it was bad. With this Machine it looks like I have been sewing for years. i have now made clothes fo rmy daughters horse shows that are world quality. That people spend thousands on, and I custom design my own. Now I make my own clothes.I am about to tackle my boys new quilts and bedding. I had not had the time to embroider. So tonight I went through the CD and learned. In one hour after playing around with the designs and test sewing. I just hook the design up and walk away and it's done. It sews fast and no fuss. Not hard to learn at all. I even used the regular needle. I had the right heavier needle but I felt it was leaving a bit too much heavy needle marks. I leave the tension on 3, the machine recomends 4. Between 3 and 4 it is a steady average. Now I can't wait to start embroidering towels and dresses for my baby. It opened a whole new dimention. Infact everyone gets homemade beautiful embroidered towels for christmas this year!My 1 complaint. No USB, I find the designs I like are well not compatiable. There is a card set you have to buy seperate and now I will be purchasing to see about downloading into. Some people say 4x4 is the largest. So if I ever want to go pro and be bigger then Ill have to upgrade to a bigger machine. This machine is so easy my daughter who is 9 is using it.My mother in laws 20yr kenmore froze up and I talked her into geting one like mine. Well I took it over and showe dher how it works. ( she is non computer savy) She ordered one off amazon and used my discount ( i work for amazon.) She got it in 2 days and it was a holiday weekend. She loves it and uses it all day every day.As I said I am 29yrs old and this machine makes you learn how to sew easy and advance fast. I have had it for 2yrs now, and all I can say is, Time to embroider!You won't go wrong with this machine. There is 4 different kinds of instructions. On the machine, book, CD, and LCD help screen on the machine. I mean it is idiot proof, loose the cd and instruction book thats ok it's on the machine!

I thought this would be a great gift. Although she loved it, she was ultimately not happy with it. The problem is you have a limited number of things you can embroider. The quality of the embroider is adequate. The size of the hoop is a little small, but how big do you really want to put the letters on a shirt. It costs an additional hundred dollar for the part to allow you to use your own designs. If this had a way to download through the USB port your own design, I would give a 4.

I Searched high and low for a machine and did not want to part with my money for a piece of junk. I knew I couldn't afford a "high end" machine. Not to mention I break everything in my path(Don't ask how many Vaccuums I have gone through). DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY THIS MACHINE. I had a cheap basic model machine from brother that I originally learned on and was afraid that this was going to be a repeat performance. The machines threader is by far the BEST. I have since used other high end machines whose automatic threader were no where near as easy. My five year old daughter has been able to learn to sew on this machine with ease. As well as I have. The only flaw (for a quilter) to this machine is the size of its bed. You will have enough room for a baby quilt and a lap/couch throw. After that your pushing it. I remedied this by going onto ebay and purchasing an OLD 15 series Singer sewing machine to do my quilting on After I was sure I wanted to continue with quilting. You can purchase a walking foot through Amazon for the Brother SE-350, Through Kens sew and Vac ( really good people,very helpful). The drop in bobbin is easier than either two Janome I have used. By far.And the automatic thread cutter has been well appreciated by my Vaccuum not having to work as hard. The machine is very stable on a table. The foot pedal is very controllable (wont take off on you, Even with it on near high speed) The instructions are okay ( as good as your gonna get anywhere else ). The bobbin winder is very even while winding, Not messy. The only other machine that takes a beating like this one can are my vintage Singer machines. Only one word of advice (as with any machine): When changing needles dont forget to put a cloth down under it, to prevent it going into the machine. I still have half a needle kicking around inside of mine. This machine is money well spent.
