Not your basic Camelot adventure but a grand ride!!!
I have long been a fan of the King Arthur legend so I looked forward to reading this trilogy, of which "Dragon's Child" is the first book...Ms Hume treats this as a post doctoral investigation, complete with enough creative license to make this book an interesting novel, that investigates a possible pre-Camelot growing of age tale of the protagonist...many of the characters names will be familiar, albeit not exactly the same as what we in the West have come to recognize (with good reason as documented in the book)...and the timeframe was a bit jarring until you understand just where in history we have landed...but I especially liked the transformation tale of Artorex to Artur, High King of the Celts...first book in a grand adventure...

Nicely written but a bit dull
The writing is solid, the story hangs together well, but I found quite boring. Hard to pinpoint as it doesn’t read as a historical novel, isn’t as interesting as Cornwell’s earliest Saxon tales and certainly not as formulaic as the latest books in the series. I wanted to like it, expected to like it, but found it quite dry.

Best King Arthur Legend
Reading my first King Arthur ( Thomas Mallory ) I was always enticed (40 yrs. ) with the legend. I have read many versions from Steward to Langford. I must admit this the best of the lot so far. In M.K. Hume she makes the King Arthur story a true fact rather than a fantasy. The character of Merlin is not magician but a manipulator of kings and history. If you like King Arthur than I highly recommend this book. Can not wait to read the next part in this trilogy.

Another Interesting take on Arthur.
Had to go to Amazon to find this after book 2 was offered by SFBC. Great start to another interesting take on the Arthurian legends. Written by an Author who knows her stuff.

Great Book
I love the Arthurian legends and ANY retelling of that classic tale is always enjoyable, but finding this book was like finding a treasure. The story is an outstanding recasting of the story by a true scholar and outstanding writer. The characters are wonderful despite their divergence from the norm and it was such a pleasure to read an eBook that wasn't riddled with typos. A great read.

A different twist on the king
All 3 books are very good. This is a different Arthur. Over the 3 books a sense of doom grows as we know he dies. The Queen is dumb and difficult, and practically a whore from the very beggining. I would change some things, but all in all, worth your time.

Excellent
I am half way through this book and can't put it down. Love his writing very much like Mary Smith writing. Will purchase the next two that follow this book.
