Great rental price, easy to use!
When I was looking for this book in my college bookstore I found it for over $200, and to RENT it was $116!! So I immediately got on Amazon and found it for only $35 to rent and I was so relieved. I needed it for my first French class on Monday, and it came very quickly! The only kicker is there is no access code to work online. This is not a problem for my class but I could see how it would be useful too others, so I wanted to let it be known that it does not come with an access code. Great book, I would recommend! Easy to use and understand, awesome for beginners.

Still a good book
The only pitfall is that it will not give you the correct answers to the exercises it has you do. Not a good way to learn or know how to correct the errors on the exercises.

Educational and informative
Good price for a great book. My daughter uses it in high school and says it's the best French book she has used so far.

Mediocre and frustrating
This workbook, along with the textbook, are the required texts for an introductory French course that I am taking. This review is for both the textbook and the workbook as a package.Let's get the most underwhelming part out of the way: THERE IS NO ACCESS CODE INCLUDED.The Good: - This book is simple. If you have high-school level English, you will understand what is going on in this book. - There are recordings on the website to go along with the exercises. The recordings are quite high-quality and give good listening/pronunciation practice. The videos do a good job reinforcing vocabulary, albeit with at times questionable content. - Some answers are at the back of the book. The Bad: This book is simple and not very useful. - The content is dumbed-down. The activities and lessons ask (assume) students to be shallow; it is extremely frustrating. I have no interest in looking up the personal lives of celebrities in order to describe them using adjectives for a workbook exercise. It's impolite, and there are many far more effective ways to use my time. (Side rant: What is up with the obsession with films and films and films, and why the widespread hatred of mathematics portrayed in this book?) - The culture presented is watered-down and oversimplified. The text and workbook encourage students to overgeneralize about culture, to a fault. The Ugly: The pedagogy is lacking. - Who decided that it would be a good idea to spread out pronunciation tips throughout the book? Wouldn't it be better to put all the pronunciation tips at the beginning of the book, so that a beginner student could familiarize himself/herself with the sounds immediately and practice proper pronunciation throughout his/her studies? - The layout is extremely poorly thought-out (there is no system); it is nigh impossible to find what you are looking for in this book, unless you have photographic memory!

BEWARE-NO "CONNECT" ACCESS
This does NOT have the online access. It is just the textbook. There is nothing wrong with the book I received (used, very good condition); However, this is not what most teachers are using now. I had to purchase the "CONNECT" program for $130 and I am returning this textbook.
