SINGER 01661 Sew Essentials Storage System and Sewing Kit, 166 Pieces

So I admit I bought this after looking at other kits and going that's all I get for $10-15? I'm not saying that with this one! The thread selection is great, it's sewing thread with good color selection and the scissors actually feel really sturdy. There is lots of room for expansion in the drawers, there was plenty of room to absorb my odds and ends from previous sewing kits. Needle selection is good and the odds and ends (pins, pin cushion, thimble, seam ripper, etc) all tuck away nicely. My only complaint is that the box itself is a bit flimsey when it's open and spread out. I don't think it's a good package for a smaller child learning how to sew that isn't patient and gentle with the kit but it's got more than enough if you are going to be fixing buttons, doing some simple by hand sewing and garmet modification as an adult or college student.

A little info: I'm a beginner sewer, seamstress whatever is the correct terminology and I find this kit really helpful because of my situation.I can't really complain about the quality because they are of good quality to my situation though (Me being a beginner and all). However the bobbins looked kind of fragile but since I have a Brother machine it doesn't matter. The scissors are a bit stiff though, but they still cut well. Unlike other reviews I did not have a problem with the case or even will complain about it's "plastic" / "cheap" feel of the kit.Before I bought this kit, I read the reviews on here and was a bit scared. But I bought it anyways because it had tons of threads (with very pretty colors) for the price of aproximately 23 bucks. So for the people who are scared away because of the other reviews, I'd say go for it, however with the experienced sewers I'd say go for it too, but since you guys are experience and know what to look for I'd say stick to your guts.Overall I am giving this 5 stars. I'm satisfied with this purchased and glad that I purchased it. :)

This is a great organizer with a few pros and cons, so lets go through themShort version- This really is good, it has cheap thread that holds up well, it's easy to open (despite the people who can't seem to figure it out)ProsThis has a lot of things for the price, the two "pockets" on the outside for books or manuals are a great addition.The storage inside is also nice, you can add more things such as nicer scissors, pins, extra bobbins etc.It's very easy to open (I really have no idea why people are having such trouble, it's not rocket science, I will say that if you don't close the compartments inside it will have some trouble opening...obviously)Cons-The thread quality is pretty cheap, as are most everything else in the actual kit but they work good, I have tested on thin leather, suede, jeans and a quilt and all have held up pretty well (the jeans are work jeans that have been worn at least twice a week and the thread is still good)I am a little ocd when it comes to my organizing by color and mine weren't really organized that well but it was an easy fix and I really could have ignored it and just organized as I ran out of thread

I LOVE this, I liked it so much I bought another one as a gift for my mum. I had to leave all my previous sewing supplies behind when I moved so this was the perfect way to start off with all the essentials you would need to make something. It's small and sturdy, and everything is neatly laid out inside, with lots of compartments so that everything stays organised. There is a good range of colours in the selection of threads that are in there. I am very happy with this and would recommend it.

I bought this for my young Niece who is learning to use a Singer FM17 machine, but wished I had one myself! My sewing consists of hemming, altering, buttons and the occasional crafting, maybe 10 times a year, and yet I have a drawer filled with thread and sewing accesory chaos. This is very organized with room in the side slots for extra accessories. The included bobbins fit the Singer FM17. If I wanted to add my own heavy duty threads, I coul easily exchange the standard sized spools out. The front and back slots are great to hold instructions and patterns, though I do think they could have had more depth to hold more. I would say, this is perfect for the non professional like me.

Purchased on sale for $20. Would not pay full price. Case is impossible to open without superhuman strength. It is going away. During the pandemic this is worth it for the sale price in order to have a variety of basic supplies on hand. The materials are all low-quality but it is sufficient for emergencies which is what I was looking for. I decided to store in a Sterlite box. Happy to have the sewing gauge and a separate pair of scissors, etc. to keep all in one place. Most of the thread is odd colors, but again I am happy to pay full price for separate quality thread to add for black and white but it will be nice to have some spare colors when needed that I don’t want to pay full price for. Also happy to have the pins, pincushion, tape measure and really pleased to have some extra bobbins - all of which would add up to more if purchased separately.

Perfect little sewing kit! It comes with everything you need and want to get sewing. Great gift for beginners and professionals! I bought my wife a new sewing machine and this sewing essentials kit and she hasn't stopped sewing since! Everything in it is well organized in their own little compartments that fold up into the perfect carrying case! Definitely a must buy for that crafty someone in your life!!!

This is perfect for the essentials. It has a lot of space but also very compacts. As soon as I got it I was able to repack it with full size spools on both sides. It also has 8 small compartments for things like pins, sewing needles, machine needles and one large tray that fits several tools in addition to the scissors that come with the set. I ordered this because I needed thread. But, I'm totally impressed with the whole thing. Awesome purchase!
