I recommend this book.
This was a very useful book to me as I did not know much about the flathead. I will be taking this book with me when I look at parts and motors for my project. My only issue is that this book has not been updated since publication in 1995 and there has to be some later information out there. I do recommend the book though.

Great book on the Flathead
This is a great book. I got mine several years ago and couldn't put it down at the time. I still flip through it just to brush up or just to look at the pics. It shows you how to build a street driven stock or mild modified flathead all the way up to the radical Bonneville motor mentioned in another review. It covers many of the flaws in the flathead design and how to work around them, how to fix cracks, plus how to care for a daily driver. It has several helpful factory spec. charts as well. However, if you are planning on modifying a 32'-36' 21 stud motor, it touches on the design differences of those years, including differences in the very rare early 32's and the later 32's. But, it strongly hints that it's not popular to modify these early engines and tells you why. There is an article on using a 37' block with 35' heads to build a stock looking but more reliable and powerful 35' Ford "Great Race" car.It shows some modified 60 motors but not much "how to build" detail.Pics inside are black & white but there are plenty of them. The book covers a Stromberg 97 rebuild, but only touches on the other carburetors used on flatheads. I know people who swear by the 94's but not much in here on them. There is a short section on the Harley-Davidson flathead. Some may be able to pull some tips from that on building their Ford motor, but I'm not sure what. There is a great picture tour of a vintage race museum near the end with lots of photos of shade tree mechanics' contraptions to get power out of the flatheads back in the day, as well as some of the mainstream mods from then.Overall good book, but I didn't pay anywhere near the $267 I see above! Check car shows and ebay.

One of the best flathead ford books
Great info here! If you have an interest in flatheads - for future use or historical perspective, buy this book. Great info here. It's basically a collection of articles written by many of the greats of past & present: Kong Jackson, Barney Navarro, and many, many others. Over 200 pages of info and black and white photographs. It is the only book that looks at the same engine from so many points of view, and has such a broad scope of information. If I could only buy one flathead book, this would be it.

An in depth look at our favorite flatmotor
If you're a flathead lover, you should own this book. There's a great deal of reference material in the front half of the book, and interviews including building suggestions from THE Barney Navarro, Don Francisco, Joe Reath, Tony DiCosta, Kong Jackson, Ron Ceridono and a great piece on Kenny Kloth, a real hands on guy who has doctored a STOCK BODIED '49 Merc coupe and unblown engine to run over 140 mph at Bonneville. That, friend, is an almost unbelieveable achievement. Tiny T bodied 296" Merc motors had a hard time doing that in the 1950's. These geezers know their flatmotors! Listen in!

it isnt the "Bible" of flathead engines to what it was advertised as
It is an ok book but just does not meet what a manual on flathead engines would be
