Excellent for use on brass

This does an excellent job when used on brass. Normal lacquer when used on brass will dry leaving a crystalline like glow in the light. This drys clear and smooth with no application issues.

Protects brass from tarnishing very well. Keeps is shiny.

After spending several hours polishing a very tarnished brass music stand, I wasn't ready to ever have to polish it again some other day in the future. So I bought this stuff. Its easy to spray it on too thick and get runs, which aren't too major of a problem, but spraying several light coats prevents the drip and run issue while making your object look a little better. This stuff works very good on every type of bare CLEAN metal and not brass only. One can goes a long ways and you probably wont use it up just doing two or three objects unless they are huge.I made the mistake of spraying a small object in the house and the fumes are SO BAD I greatly regretted that mistake. Hours later I had to open the windows because the noxious fumes weren't fading as expected and I couldn't stand it any longer and was getting a real headache. After that everything else that needed to be sprayed, went outdoors to my shed for spraying. The stickiness goes away in less than 30 minutes, but for those 30 minutes you want to protect it from floating debris in the air, leaves, dust, lint etc, as it will get caught and captured in the drying lacquer coat. But this stuff is great if you use it right and give it the respect it needs.

Seems to Do the Job

Hard to tell if this spray is any better than clear lacquer. It is supposed to include tarnish preventer but it cannot be proven until it ages... and then it would still be questionable if it did better than simple clear lacquer. I note this because the cost is nearly double over normal lacquer, but since cleaning tarnish from outdoor fixtures is tedious, it was worth a try in small quantity (i.e. 1 can only). It did dry fast and evenly and provided a good overall finish.

Impressed so far.

I purchased this product with the hopes of putting a protective coating on solid brass thereby preventing tarnishing. My project during June 2016 was restoring 2 solid brass processional candles (candles) used in my RC Church. Being the old protective coating put on at the factory that made these had worn off the brass became very tarnished and worn looking. I started by using 320 grit sandpaper to begin the removal of the old worn finish, tarnish, oxidation, etc. I then continued working the candles using sandpaper in this order 360 grit., 400 grit., and finally 500 grit. I then used a metal cleaner to remove any possible tarnish that might be in some of the micro pitting that remained in the brass. I then used an automotive grade polishing compound I have with my 7 inch polisher to polish the final brushed brass finish. I then scrubbed the candles with a cleaning solution and warm water mix and rinsed thoroughly. Being it was summer and the sun was blazing I placed the candles in the sun to dry thoroughly. Once they were dried thoroughly I cleaned them with lacquer thinner. Now came the spraying process. I did this outside on a calm warm (about 85 deg.) day. I had actually let the can sit in the hot sun for about 15 mins. being I've always gotten better spraying from a warm can. I decided on doing 5 medium coats where no coat was heavy enough to cause sagging. When spraying I noticed the spray pattern was adequately wide. I sprayed from about 10 inches away. At no time during the spraying process did the nozzle produce spitting/splatter. From previous experience doing touch up on auto fenders and such I've learned you MUST keep the finger pushing down on the nozzle out of the spray or you will end up with spitting/splatter. Even the slightest amount of touching the spray will produce spitting/splatter. Also nice about the product was it's drying time to re-coat. It was basically just like auto touch up paint where within mere minutes (if that) you can spray another coat. For me it was a continuous process. After spraying an initial coat on the 1st candle and moving to the 2nd candle by the time I finished spraying the initial coat on the 2nd candle I was able to go back to the 1st candle and begin spraying another coat on it. Likewise, when I finished spraying a coat on the 1st candle the 2nd candle was now ready for another coat. I also noticed the lacquer did not change the color or tone of the candles at all. It merely adds a slight wet look (shine). The brushed brass finish remained as it was before applying the lacquer. To finish both candles I used about 1/2 a can which isn't bad. I then let these dry for about 2 weeks (old school) before returning them to the church to be put into service. As for durability I can't offer much at this time other than to say they've been used for 3 weekends where we have 6 masses per weekend and they are subjected to significant handling by the Altar Servers and when inspecting them this past Sunday they still looked like the day I sprayed them. I've detected no tarnish, which was the main concern. The price per can wasn't too bad and delivery from the company after I ordered it on Amazon wasn't that long. Having the product in stores (which it is not) would be a plus but so far the experience has been uneventful with no complaints. Hopefully the durability will result in at least a couple of years of service. Only time will tell.

Not quite what I was hoping for

I was hoping it would let the glossy metallic finish of burnished metal shine through unobstructed, but instead it seems to give the brass a slightly matte appearance. Still bright, but not as shiny as I wanted. It seems to work just like any other spray lacquer. Dries fast when applied in thin coats and left in the sun. I only got mine a few months ago, so I can't speak to its long-term durability.

Much better than expected

Had some doubts when decided to buy (because of some reviews). But worked great for me
