Review: able to use the fan in the northeast both in summer and winter - My initial review. I had intended to use it in the winter in my large bedroom with a vaulted ceiling by placing it on top of my armoire and aiming it across to the opposite corner of the room. This fan has 5 buttons on the top of the unit, one on/off then 1 - 4 for speed settings. Speeds 1 and 2 are very quiet, 3 is noticeable but not loud and 4 is pretty loud. Alas, with the buttons on the top of the unit, on the armoire I can't reach them without a ladder. I decided to relocate the 660 downstairs to my family room and get a smaller model, the 630 with a three speed switch on the side of the unit to use in my bedroom. Note, while it is working very well for me in the summer circulating the air conditioned air downstairs, my hope is to run the 660 upstairs on the lowest speed this winter to circulate some of the hot air from upstairs to the lower level. As others have noted, during the summer, I was able to raise my thermostat 3 degrees using the fan downstairs thereby saving on the AC electric bill. Will update my review later in the year when we switch from AC to heating. 12/19/2014 update. For the winter I have relocated the fan from downstairs to the 2nd floor stairwell landing. I aim it at the far corner ceiling of the stairwell and set it on low. The lowest setting continues to be very quiet to the point that I have to remember to turn it off at night when the thermostat reverts to the night temperature setting. Since my first floor is on a slab and much colder in the winter then the 2nd floor, the fan helps circulate some of the warmer air upstairs to the lower level. I continue to be satisfied with my purchase. I have found that it takes trial and error to position the fan in order to maximize its efficiency. In my case, I locate it upstairs in the winter and downstairs in the summer. I continue to rate it 5 stars. 7/21/2025 update. Yes, 2025 update of my initial review written over 10 years ago. I have purchased many of the Vornado 660 models which, in my opinion, are the best fans. I continue to use them in the winter and the summer. In the summer, I aim the fan diagonally to the opposite corner of the ceiling and truthfully, the air simply drops down on me like a cool blanket. I have purchased many of this model, given one to several dear friends as gifts. In the winter months, I find that they circulate the warm air at the ceiling around the room. I usually run them on the lowest speed where I need to remember to shut it off before leaving the room because it is so quite at that speed, its easy to forget that its on. One last note, my original review talks about the buttons on top of the fan make them difficult to reach when the fan is on top of my armoire but I now plug it into a switch that I can easily reach and there you have it. I'd give it 10 stars if I could and at todays sale price $88, its a bargain. They help me keep these high electric bills a bit lower.
Review: I replaced my ceiling fan for this, and I love it! (UPDATE) 07/30/2029 - In my room ( the man cave) I have a custom build PC, PS3, XBOX 360, and a 40" Samsung TV. Now as you can imagine, all these things turning on together and staying on tend to build up quite a bit of heat, enough to make me sweat. I dealt with this for a while cause my brother wouldn't be playing the consoles a lot back then, but now he plays for literally the same amount of time I'm on the PC...4 hours or so. One day I said enough is enough! I didn't like sweating in my own room after a long day, so I decided to buy a fan. I went through a few pages before getting to the Vornado. What actually drew me here was the price, it was much higher then all the other fans I had looked at. So the question came to mind....is it really that good? Unfortunately, fan reviews are not easy to come by, which is understandable. So I just did some research on what made a Vornado so special from other fans. This fan actually circulates the air in your room and it feels like a light breeze all over your room. It brought down the temperature in my room by about 3 degrees, but on top of that it's a constant breeze that cools you off, so it feels even better then what the thermal reads. Because of the way this circulates air, I actually had to not use my ceiling fan so it would not disrupt the circulation process. This fan blows out a TON more air then any fan I have ever had before. forewarning though, please be advised that it circulates air, that means it will not do it's job if it's pointed directly at you, it has to be pointing to some top corner of the room to move the air round properly. As far as the settings go, 1=Literally no sound at all, 2=Still pretty quite, 3=Now you might want to put a few notches up on your TV, 4= sounds like a normal fan now, it's not super loud, but enough to notice a fan is on somewhere. As a suggestion I would get this fan above all the other Vornado whole room fans. Because what this fan can do on setting 2 and 3 is the high setting for the lower priced models and I like having the choice to go up or down to what I need. Now there is another model called 733, know that the 660 ( this one) is a lot better at energy conserving and can blow more amount of air at a quieter level. UPDATE 11/1/2017: I want to just let you all know I'm still rocking this fan almost 4 years later and I still love it. Makes my room cool, if you have any questions, ask away!!! I got years of experience with this fan, and I set up my desertcart to let me know when there is a question so I can be more prompt with the replies! ( sorry for the old comments out there!) UPDATE 07/30/2019: Still rocking it after 5 years and it performs just like it did day one!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does this fan oscillate?**
A: No, not at all. But it's not really intended to do so. Think of this less like a "fan" that blows air straight on you. It certainly does that, but it's column of air is so narrow and direct that it's not really ideal for that. Rather, think of this as a circulator. Point it at the wall above your bed and there will be no fight over who is getting the better end of the fan because it will legitimately spray the air from where the fab is located to wherever it is pointed. Point it from the floor to near the corner of the ceiling and wall above your bed and everything and everyone along that wall will get bathed in air, lam to he while everything in the room is mixed as if I a perfect air burrito. No chinks of warm air. Just everything perfect.

**Q: Does it have an oil port on the motor?**
A: Had this fan for 5 years, and it is one of the best fans you can buy. Problems are it doesn't oscillate, and the fan gets full of dust. Recently the fan started making a noise and the fan blade was not moving. Took the fan apart including the motor and motor housing. Cleaned all of the dust out and sprayed some of the plastic parts in the shower with hot water. The motor rotor was still not spinning, so lubricated both ends of the rotor rod with wd40, and it is back to new again. Have the Vornado heater, and that's a nice product. Looking for another large Vornado fan with a stand and oscillation, remote.

**Q: Does anyone use this fan to force cool air from downstairs, up into the warmer second level of home, by placing it near the foot of a staircase?**
A: I have this fan on the floor of a room that sits below a balcony hallway. I have the fan pointed to move the cool air up into the higher spaces. It seems to move a large amount of air pretty quickly and relatively quietly compared to other fans twice its diameter. It quickly mixes the cooler air from below with the warmer air up in the high spaces to even out the temperature. I have an ecobee system with multiple temperature monitors. When I turn on the fan the temperature in the upstairs drops by two or three degrees in about 10-15 minutes.

**Q: Is this fan 240v compatible? I'm contemplating ordering this for use in Australia**
A: Hello Jonathan, 660 model (and all Vornado models) motor has been re-worked for Australian Consumers. Do NOT buy the 120V model if you are using it in Australia. The 120V model only works for a couple of hours in Australia before the motor blows. This model is available in Australia. Please go to www.vornado.com.au and search the where to buy section. It may be a bit more expensive however, it worth spending a bit more than flushing $74.99 down the drain. Hope this helps.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I replaced my ceiling fan for this, and I love it! (UPDATE) 07/30/2029

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It will push air but disclaimer. Its not a good alternative to a central A/C
*by A***R on July 31, 2023*

I have mixed feelings on this one. So without a doubt it works. As one comment said you better believe it will move air very easily. Compared to the cheap $39.99 Lasko one at walmart. This one takes the cake and will blow way more air. Noise Levels: Its okay. To say its silent is a stretch but its not loud. Its not industrial omg whats that noise. You can totally sleep through it but it is one where you can hear the fans from the hallway so I would say its pretty standard that you would expect from any old fan. Cooling Potentials: At the end of the day most fans from what I have seen simply put won't cool a room down. You can feel the air no matter where you put it in the room and point it if its on full blast but it will simply put be no replacement to an actual centralized a/c unit. Please remember this when you have little ones. I live in Southern California so it gets hot after June glooms over. Like really hot like heat wave kind of heat. This fan provides a great breeze that keeps my internal temperatures at good levels when im resting in bed. I bought two of them and have them both on my nighstands so its actually nice from that perspective but remember that the hot air doesn't escape. Worth the price: Ehh to someone's point I think you can probably get away with finding a cheaper fan elsewhere. I personally went with these two after reading reviewers on it and the name Vornado was cool and I researched it so it met my needs. However, at $200.00 it works. It gets the job done. I don't feel like I wasted money tbh. Its a lot of air these small things can push out but again it won't get the actual hot air out the room unless there is an open window/door. etc. I do think a better alternative would be a portable A/C unit if you really need something going but for me as the only person dwelling in this room the two fans work great. TL:DR I am pleased with my purchase and it works no doubt. I would recommend it again but I would exercise a lot of caution when recommending this to someone.
